- present day -
I walk up to the drawer, almost drawn to whatever it contains. I kneel in front of the drawer and spot a key hole. I slip my dagger into the slot and twist it around for a few seconds. Finally I hear a click, and the draw opens as I take out the dagger.
I gasp softly.
Inside the draw is the most beautiful necklace I've ever seen. The necklace is silver plated with emeralds spread out through the silver, the emeralds running all the way around the necklace. Obsidian is also intertwined with the silver chain. I go to reach for the necklace when the tugging sensation returns to my stomach.
I turn around quickly and my dagger comes into contact with flesh. I hold my dagger against her neck. Her looking eerily calm for someone with a knife to their throat.
"Hmm, not many people can sense me coming." The girl states with a hint of amusement.
The girl had hair that fell in front of her face, her hair pitch black like the night sky. One of her eyes were an ashen grey and the other a deep blue. Her eyes slipped in and out of visibility as her hair fell in front of her eyes every so often. She wore a suit similar to mine although her shirt was loose. Her lips were upturned in a small smirk as she eyed me down. She looked around my height and was also around my build. She looked younger so I guessed around 18.
I lifted my chin up and replied calmly,
"And not many people can sneak up on me so there really is a first time for everything isn't there."
I tilt my dagger upwards towards her jaw and her head moves with the blade, not wanting to be cut.
"What do you want?" I ask
"I don't want anything. I'm just checking up on my assignment." She responded
"Your assignment?" I snicker
"Yes my assignment. You. I was hired to protect you from a distance until the time was right. Once the time is right I get to kill you. Slowly.. and painfully."
I slowly slide the blade across her throat, cutting a thin layer of skin and flesh. She didn't even flinch. The cut created a thin red line across her throat. Beads of blood started dripping from the cut. I start to laugh. It sounded hysterical even to my own ears. Her smirk faltered.
"Oh god your funny. You make it sound like you'll actually be able to kill me."
"Well what if I can?"
"Then I'll be impressed."
She was at a loss for words.
"Who gave you this.. assignment, may I ask?"
"Sorry but I can't tell you that information just quite yet. But I will eventually."
I suddenly felt something cold pressed up against my ribs. I glance down and see a gun. Shit. I didn't even make her put his hands up or pat her down. Rookie move on my behalf. I lift my gaze my to the girl, narrowing my eyes.
"So, I have you at knifepoint and you have me at gunpoint. Now what?" I ask
"Now we let each other go."
"Counter offer, I slit your throat because I know you won't shoot me because your not allowed to yet, and you wouldn't disobey whoever hired you because your scared of them. Am I right?"
"That may be true. But if you want to slit my throat why haven't you yet? Hmm."
Now I'm the one who's at a loss for words.
Suddenly a light shines right in front of me, I scramble to reach for the girl but I can't feel her. Once the light fades she's gone. The girl is gone.
"Fuck." I whisper
I turn back to the draw, the necklace still sitting inside. I reach for it and pocket it. I walk back out the door and step over all the bodies. The guard I left on the wall still there. I laugh softly.
"See ya mate, hope you have fun there." I chuckle to him
"Haha." He says sarcastically. "Little bitch."
"Don't worry the web will disintegrate in 2 hours"
Once I get out of the building the cold, night air hits my face. I contemplate swinging back to the apartment but decide against it. I walk back along the river, the sun peeking out from the horizon. I let out a long breath. I can't believe I killed them. I had to avenge my mother and myself but it's still wrong. No it's not wrong I tell myself. They're monsters and they got what they deserved. I try to distract myself from my thoughts by watching the sun rise and I enter my apartment complex. I walk through the empty lobby and climb the stairs up to my apartment. ACDC plays loudly from my apartment. I knock on the door and wait. Of course no one hears me because of the music so I bang on the door.
The music stops and I hear footsteps approach the door. The door opens and the music continues playing but quieter.
"Hey Miles." I say
Miles closes the door and walks with my inside the apartment.
"Hey Y/N. How did it go?" He asks tentatively
"I did it. It's done." I respond
He nods slightly and doesn't ask anything else. We walk side by side into the kitchen. I get a glass of water and lean against the bench.
"Oh by the way I've almost finished your suit would you like to put the finishing touches on it with me? Considering it was your design." He asks me
"Yeah of course." I smile
Just as we walk out of the kitchen the TV channel miles was on gets interrupted. We stop and watch the interruption as the local news plays.
"Breaking News, a few days ago a controversial news website called the Daily Bugle uploaded this footage in Times Square, New York. We just gained this footage and the footage shows live incriminating audio that the famous Avenger Spider-Man killed Mysterio and ordered the attack in London. Even more shocking footage is that Spider-Mans identity was revealed by Mysterio moments before his death."
"They know who Spider-Man is?" I whisper in shock looking over at Miles.
"Spider-Man is none other than a high school student called Peter Parker."
I gasp and turn to Miles again, finding him already looking at me.
"You don't think...?" He says softly
"It has to be," I respond, " Peter."
"We found you."
