In depth of Memories

I know that technically Nik should've been after Finn but I'm gonna do Mikael since he had an interaction with Finn in the last chapter. Anyways, he'll be getting Aesthetic at the end of this chapter. Since we're going out of order I'll just say, that order will mainly stand but there will be other chapters thrown in that aren't a main. Mikael can be between Nik & Finn for now.



"Freya... I'm so sorry, I love you..."

Mikael remembered the last words he ever spoke. He remembered the last words his son ever spoke to him as well.

He finally understood as he awoke, alone, with his memories haunting him. Mikael knew one thing that he had to do. He wanted to fix what he had started.

Deep down, Mikael knew something, he loved his children all of them. It was just what his father had done to him, apart of him thought it was right. But it wasn't, how could treating your child like that be right? Mikael was thankful his children understood that even when he didn't.

And so when Mikael woke in the past as a human. As he walked along the streets he saw his beloved daughter, Freya. And that was when he decided to watch from afar, help his children in this strange world.

He was just a nice man he decided, a nice man named Micheal Norman. He watched his children as much as he could, following them as they grew for the first time in over 1,000 years.



2018
New York City

"I'm sorry, I don't have enough cash," Rebekah said softly, of course she would be down 5 dollars for the gift, it was Freya's birthday tomorrow.

Mikael walked from behind, seeing Rebekah at the desk. He walked forward, tapping on her shoulder, "How much do you need?" He asked, getting out his wallet.

Rebekah smiled "Only 5, but you really don't need to pay, it's my fault." She pleaded, but Mikael had already gotten the 5 out, offering a soft smile.

"It's my pleasure, really." He responded before walking away. He could be a good man, a good father to his children even without them knowing.

He smiled as he walked away, Rebekah knew Freya. They where friends, just as Kol was friends with Elijah and Niklaus. They where happy and that was what mattered.

Finn was happy with Sage, their girlfriend. Mikael remembered the day Finn introduced him to Sage. He was only 18 and ever so nervous. Little Kol had practically jumped into his brother's arms, giggling wildly. Oh Sage just loved Kol and Rebekah.

Back in 2017, he had run into Finn at a charity ball in Germany. Finn was there with Sage and he had asked Mikael for help with his tie. Mikael hadn't even known Finn was there until he saw him, his son.



But as always, Mikael had been traumatized with one of his worst memories. In 2015 a mere week after he woke up he saw something absolutely horrible.

Henrik. Henrik Mikaelson, his youngest son was in a car crash. And then he was put into a coma. It was always stop and go, Mikael just hoped Henrik would stay strong and survive this. He hoped that his children would have a chance to see each other again.

The first time Mikael saw one of his children besides Henrik was in 2016, Niklaus had went into the same hospital for one of his friends. Mikael followed Niklaus after that, bribing the desk person to keep him in the know of how Henrik was at all times.

He followed Niklaus, watched him in his struggles and victories and for once, Mikael felt love for the boy. Mikael regretted the most how he had treated Niklaus, for no reason at that. He remembered the good memories, the few times he allowed Niklaus to be happy.

There was once where Kol practically begged Niklaus to take him riding, Mikael smiled at that. Or deep in the night when Elijah took Niklaus into his arms as the storm thundered around their home. And as always the times he played with Rebekah. Even when Niklaus cradled his daughter, cared for her, Mikael saw.

And in the end he still hurt his children beyond repair. Finn with the lack of support, Elijah being beaten mentally, Niklaus nearly constantly being hurt by him, Kol was barely ever recognized unless he did something wrong and then he got beated, and poor Rebekah was treated like a bloody rag.

Mikael had turned into his father. But perhaps he could fix it. Even from afar.

Reading stories to Henrik as he lie in the hospital bed unresponsive. Helping Rebekah as much as he could, or running his hand through Kol's hair as he had a nightmare. Whispering ideas in Niklaus ears whenever he felt helpless. Or finding the truth in Elijah's case and helping him out along the way and finally, leading Keelin and Sage back to his children and helping them with ways to return their memories.

In truth, Mikael loved his family and he never meant to hurt them.


