Sunlight creeped through my blinds and found its way into my eyes. I groaned and turned away from the light, burying my head in my pillow. It seemed like every day, it was harder and harder to wake up. I knew that if I didn't get up soon, Pikachu would use his own method to wake me up, but I couldn't will myself to move any part of me. I heard the faint crackle of electricity. Uh-oh. There was no stopping it now. I drowsily mumbled: "Pikachu, don't..." But by then, he had already shocked me, and I was sitting up wide awake in bed. I could feel my hair sticking straight up from the static. This was the waking-up routine every day. Without Pikachu, I wouldn't be able to get up in the morning.

Once Pikachu saw that I was awake, he cheered in delight. "Pika, Pika!" he said eagerly as he pointed to the kitchen. That meant that he had already made breakfast. I loved that he was an early riser, even though I could never be one. He ran out of my room, and I listened to the noise of his little paws going down the hallway. We lived in a modern apartment, so the layout was small. It was perfect for us: me, Pikachu, and Shelgon. Shelgon was my other Pokemon, he was basically a cocoon with legs. He was almost always sleeping under my bed, and he was pretty shy. As a result, he didn't need much maintenance. I loved him just as much as Pikachu, but Shelgon wasn't the playful type, so I left him alone most of the time. When he evolved into Salamence, I didn't know what I would do. We would need a much larger living space to hold a large, flying dragon. Heck, I didn't even know if Shelgon wanted to evolve. He pretty much had the life: eating, sleeping, and watching TV whenever he wanted to. As I went to open my blinds in my room, I bent down and patted Shelgon on the head. He half-growled, which was his unique way of saying good morning.

Immediately, summer sunshine filled the room. Right from my window, I had a scenic view of Castelia City. I lived on the 56th floor of the building, so I could see far out into the sea. Very far below me, the streets surrounding the apartment were crowded with people, Pokemon, and cars. One woman, wearing very fancy clothing, was crossing the road with three Azurill bouncing on their tails behind her. A Machamp was acting as a crossing guard, using all four of its hands to direct traffic. A businessman and a Teddiursa climbed into a taxi. Even on my tiny balcony, there was a group of Starly bickering with each other. Looking out at the busy city and all of the busy people reminded me that I didn't have any plans for today. Pikachu got restless after being inside too long, so I supposed we would walk down to the Docks or something. He liked it when I got him a soda, but it always kept him burping for days.

I could have stared out that window forever, but my growling stomach reminded me that I had to eat. I walked down the hallway into the kitchen, where Pikachu was already seated at the table, devouring his cereal and berries. Inside the fridge, I picked out a container of yogurt, but my Oran Berries were nowhere to be found. Still looking around in the fridge, I asked: "Pikachu, do you know where my berries went? I could have sworn I put them in here yesterday..." Defeated, I closed the door and turned around. When I made eye contact with Pikachu, he froze. His face was stuffed with Oran Berries. No matter how hard I tried to look mad at him, a laugh still escaped me. He looked so hilarious with that guilty look on his stuffed face. I've never been mad at Pikachu for more than ten minutes. His cuteness got him out of a lot of trouble.

While we were eating, Shelgon appeared in the doorway. I guess he decided to actually move and get something to eat. His favorite snack was granola, so I grabbed a box of it from the closet, opened it, and poured it in a bowl, which I set down on the ground. Pretty soon, we were all stuffing food in our faces. After we were done eating, I grabbed my "work" laptop from the counter and sat it down on the kitchen table. Pikachu, who was playing on the floor with Shelgon, noticed it, jumped up on my chair, and perched himself on my shoulder. He was fascinated with my technology, and I didn't know why. Maybe it was because he was an Electric-type, and he liked things run by electricity. One time, he accidentally shocked the laptop, and it caused the entire apartment building to black out.
