Two sunrises had passed, yet very little had changed. Smokekit had become an apprentice, therefore becoming Smokepaw. He had moved into the apprentice den while Leafkit and Bladekit were left behind in the nursery.
Don't worry, Leafkit reminded herself, you'll be an apprentice soon!
After their last interaction, Leafkit had tried to avoid Bladekit as much as possible.
Which was impossible.
They were kept inside the camp due to being kits and they still had to sleep in the same den. At least their mother, Bramblefern, also stayed in there with them, as well as another queen, Dewpath. Dewpath was Smokepaw's mother, and his father was Whitethorn.
One time when Leafkit was younger, she had asked her mother who her father was. Bramblefern simply ignored the question, and Leafkit entirely, and continued to share tongues with the other queen.
Although, Leafkit had a pretty good idea of who her father was. Mosstail, a senior warrior, well-known for his excellent hunting abilities, was a brown tabby tom. He had light green eyes and looked somewhat like Bladekit. Her mother had amber eyes, so she had gotten her eye color from her mother, probably not her father.
Leafkit was already bored of being a kit. At least her apprentice ceremony was in a few sunrises.
She strolled out of the nursery and she was surprised at how loud the camp was that morning. Cats flooded out of their dens and chatted with their fellow clanmates while the apprentices were skidding dust everywhere playing with a moss ball. Smokepaw was playing with Smallpaw, the medicine cat apprentice, and Shallowpaw, a soon-to-be warrior. Shallowpaw was quick on his paws, which made Leafkit slightly jealous.
I want to be as fast as him.
She watched as the ball of moss hurled straight at Smokepaw. He threw himself in the air in an attempt to catch the moss with his teeth, but stumbled onto the ground, and rolled over to his back as the landing knocked all the air out of him.
Leafkit giggled as she watched him scrabble to his paws. He stared right into her eyes for a moment before his face turned away with embarrassment. He was finally standing upright, while the other two apprentices continued playing until finally letting him join back in the fun.
She continued walking towards the center of the camp, noticing how small the fresh-kill pile looked. It was new-leaf, so there should have been loads of prey running around. Maybe this generation of ThunderClan warriors aren't the best hunters, she thought and laughed guiltily in her head.
She leaned over the small pile and a fat mouse caught her eye. She picked it from the pile and realized she wouldn't be able to eat it by herself. Her cheeks turned red as she turned to Smokepaw.
"Smokepaw!" She called to the apprentice who was still playing moss ball with the others. His ears perked up and he padded in her direction with a friendly smile.
"What's up?"
Leafkit dropped the mouse and began to lick her chest fur to hide her embarrassment. "W-would you like to share prey with me?" She sputtered.
"Sure!" He accepted the request cheerfully and hauled the mouse beneath a shady area while Leafkit followed. He took a step back to allow Leafkit to take the first bite. She stumbled forwards to take a bite of the mouse, too embarrassed to say "thank you."
As she sunk her teeth into the mouse, warmth flooded her senses. The mouse tasted delicious, and she couldn't wait to take a bite out of its belly. She stepped backward this time, to allow Smokepaw to take the next bite.
