My name is Rogers - Harper Rogers. I'm 14 years old and I have an older brother - Lukas, who is 17. My brother has always been protective of me. He always says, "Harper, stay close to me; Harper, be careful; Harper, I'll always protect you."
He is sweet but I do want to tell him sometimes that I'm not a baby anymore.
It was the day before my first day of high school and Lukas is a senior at the school I am about to attend.
My Mom's name is Peggy Carter. My Dad's name is Steve Rogers. You might be surprised that my parents, well, are superheroes. My Dad is Captain America. My Mom used to do what my Dad still does now. She worked for the military for many years but now she just helps Dad with his missions. It'll be tough this year. Why? Well because Lukas (the popular one) is cute and handsome. So the girls in my class or not (maybe other grades) will ALWAYS be asking me to tell him that they want to date him. Uggh. Well probably the girls won't always ask if I don't tell them about Lukas but who knows? This happened to me in middle school. I liked to be anonymous but with 2 or 3 friends only. But my Brother, Lukas, Has tons of friends. It's like he's friends with all of the Newport Academy. Sometimes I'm so jelly. (Means jealous, for slang you know? No? Nevermind.)
Ok. I got up from my bed and headed to the bathroom. After I was done in the bathroom I went down the stairs and saw my Mom cooking some omelets. As usual, Lukas was done running around the suburbs. Always, sweaty and smelly.
"Uggh," I shuddered.
"Mornin' sis," he greeted and tried to hug me but I slithered away from his arm. So sweaty. Yuck.
Mom gave me my omelet and I ate. I poured some milk into my cup. 7 am came and I headed to the bathroom to take a shower. After that, I changed and dried my hair. Now Lukas has already taken a shower so I can hug him. I squeezed him tightly and he said, "Sis, I can't breathe."
"Oh, sorry," I said and I let go of him.
Mom called us to get in the car and we drove off. When I looked out of the car window I saw Newport Academy. I gawked at how big the school is. Surely there'll be thousands and thousands of kids. Ok. Maybe I OVERexaggerated a bit. Ok, fine I did OVERexaggerate a lot. "OMG," I said to myself. "This school is humungous."
We got out of the car, kissed Mom good-bye, and we entered the school. As we entered I felt a cool breeze on my face. Whoa! This school is air-conditioned. Lukas led me to all the places in school in our spare time. (We kinda went to school at 7:30, not 8. Oh well.)
"Wow, this place is amazing!" I said astonished.
"Yeah,"
After a few minutes or so, a kid came walking from the curb and entered. It was a boy. When he realized we were there, he looked at Lukas. I knew it was his friend, but it wasn't. When he looked Lukas in the eye, he sorta fell into a trance. Like being hypnotized. I called the boy off and he left. I snapped my fingers and said to Lukas, "You Ok?" and he gave me a nod. Still shaking his head he walked to the bathroom. After 2 minutes he came back out of the bathroom.
We strolled the school until 8:00 came. Kids came pouring in from the curb. As the kids came pouring in, I saw Ava's brown hair. She struggled to get out of the crowd of moving kids. I called out her name. (I forgot to tell you guys. Ava and I have been BFFs since preschool. We go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. Both of us are freshmen and are both 14. I'm older than her by 6 months and she's 2 months younger.) She called back and we finally bumped each other.
"FINALLY," sighed Ava.
"Yeah," I said panting.
We walked to the homeroom. Lukas hugged me and I noticed Ava staring at him dreamily. When he left I tilted my head on the side hand on my hip.
"Mm, Ava?" I said.
"Haya buwao?" she babbled.
"You like Lukas, right?"
"What, no!" she said and said to let it go. (Ha, Ha! Let it go? You know the song from Frozen?)
As we strolled into the homeroom, the Teacher, Mrs. Newman (I know her because Lukas told me all about the Teachers at Newport Academy.) told us to sit down. She handed us some folders with our schedules for our classes and our combinations. I peaked at a look at my combination sheet. It was, wait why should I tell you my combination?! You might go to Newport Academy and go to my LOCKER! Oh, well. It was 15/41/12. She told us to go to our lockers and try our combination.
After we tried to open our locks we were dismissed to recess. (Of course, you'll think recess is for kids only? Nope, it's for high schoolers as well too.) When I walked to the courtyard with Ava to have recess, I was beside a boy. He said "Hi," to me and Ava. When his face came into focus I was struck. He had green eyes, brown hair.
Then a dude came and sat with us. He was a Eric I met a few minutes ago. Setting that aside, now I've met my crush, Hayden Pullman.
