Ch. 4

Annabeth's POV

At school I've been hearing more and more rumors that Jake is cheating on me. I don't know who, but I heard one girl say Brooke. I care, because it makes me feel bad inside when a boy chooses another girl over me, but also Im kind of glad, because I have been wanting to break up with him.

Speaking of the devil, here he comes, "Annabeth, I need to talk to you," i bet I know what this is about. "I'm sure you've heard by now, but I've been cheating on you, and I like Brooke better, so I'm breaking up with you," Jake finishes. Then, he just leaves. Leaves, without hearing what I have to say. And that was a harsh break up, too. Probably my worst one. Another boyfriend came and left.

I try to keep the tears in, that doesn't work. Of course, Jackson (Percy) comes walking down the hallway and spots me. "Annie, whats wrong?" He asks, actually concerned. I just look at him. He still looks confused. "I honestly don't know whats going on," he admits. I can tell he's serious, too. I start crying harder. He grabs my hand and pleads, "Annabeth, please tell me whats wrong."

Now, of course, Brooke walks past us while I'm crying. She waves, snickers, and keeps walking. When she sees Percy wraps his arm around me, protectively, and that wiped the smile off Brooke's face.

"I think I know why now," Percy states out of the blue.

I laugh, "Well its about time, you Seaweed Brain."

He smiles. "Wise girl."

Then we just sit there until the bell rings, signaling for us to go to our next class, in my case gym (PE whatever you call it).

"Whats your next class, Annie?" Percy asks.

"Gym. How about you," I ask.

He smirks. "Gym." And we're back to the rivalry.

He sprints down the hall to the boys locker room. I just casually walk to the girls locker room.

*time lapse*

"Ok kids," Coach Hedge booms. "We are playing dodge ball today, but as you can see, Coach Berry and I decided to play with both girls and guys." Usually the girls do something in the front gym while the boys do something in the back gym, or vise-versa. "We can either play boys against girls, or we can mix it in."

"Boys against girls!" The class shouts in unison.

Coach Berry continues, "Ok, well that settles it. The rules are if you get hit, you stand in a line in the back and if someone on your team catches a ball, a person gets to come in. If they catch it one-handed, the whole team comes out."

We get in our teams and the whistle blows. All I see are colorful dodge balls flying through the air. One almost hits me, but I dodge it just in time.

"That was a close one Annabeth, keep your guard up!" Reyna shouts to me. I have gym with all Percy's friends, my friends, Ava, and other people. No Brooke, which is good. The boys don't have a strategy, which isn't a good idea, but we do. My class always has a strategy. Our strategy is to let the boys throw all the balls at us, and for us to just dodge them and occasionally throw balls, so they don't get suspicious. It works. All the balls are on our side. Most of the boys groan, knowing they fell for it again from last year, but Percy just smirks.

"Now!" Thalia yells. Us girls chuck all the balls at them low to the ground and we get at least 10 guys out. Yesss victory for the girls!!
