A/N: Hey guys, I just wanted to say that updates for my stories, including this one, may be slower as I'm back in college and have a new workload. I'll try my hardest to give updates consistently, but I'm going to ask for your patience if I'm inconsistent at times. I love writing and this story, so I hope it all works out, but it might not. Thank you so much for reading and supporting the story!
CHAPTER 8 - CURVEBALL
"Fuck! Dammit! Fucking... fuck!"
Y/n's startled tone had Tae snapping to his feet, him rushing over. It had only been about 12 hours since they hugged next to the wreckage. The sun was rising at that time, now it was set, a thin sheet of darkness cloaking them. It made his tawny skin appeared several shades darker, his eyes the same way.
The last thing Tae was expecting was to wake up to the sound of Y/n cursing. Although she had cursed before, she wasn't the type to throw a stream of profanities in the air. Granted, they hadn't known each other long, so that wasn't a perfect analysis of her personality, but she had stayed consistent thus far. What changed?
He ran over to her, the girl in the woods. She was using the bathroom, and of course, Tae's mind jumped to the worst thing. Was she bit by a snake? Poisonous spider? Another animal? Did she eat a bad berry? Why he was this worried didn't matter. All that mattered in that moment was her.
"Y/n? Y/n where are you," he said as he burst past the bushes, her standing there. Her pants were up (thank the lord), her wiping an angry tear away. "Hey, what happened?"
"Period," she mumbled, groaning and storming past him.
He followed right away. "How are we gonna handle this?"
"We?"
Taehyung hoped he didn't offend her, but she appeared genuinely curious, so he answered the way he originally intended to sound. "I want to help you, remember? We're together now. Me and you. As one. So you have a period problem, let me help with it."
"You're not embarrassed?"
"My last girlfriend threw a slipper at me for acting like it was an embarrassing thing. I'm honestly shitting my pants right now, but I'm hoping my improvising is working," he replied, playing with his fingers as they traversed the land back to their makeshift HQ.
That was the truth. Although he didn't have a vast experience with past relationships, all his previous girlfriends were offended when he treated periods like an oddity. Since then, he learned to talk about it openly. It made him uncomfortable at first, then he realized that just because it wasn't normal to him didn't mean it wasn't normal anyway. After that, he became fine with speaking about it. Sometimes he even asked first.
She smiled despite her abundant stress, her running a hand through her hair. "Well, I have shoes. I don't need socks. I could always stick a sock down there and hope I don't bleed through too much. I'm not worried about ruining my pants, but I'd like to not have blood pouring down my legs. No thanks."
He agreed, nodding to show it. "I'll give you my socks when you need them, okay?"
"Tae, you don't have to do that-"
Tae put his finger over her mouth, her raising a single brow that came across sassy. Oh, so she was sassy now, huh? Taehyung snickered at the sight and backed off, keeping his feet planted in the ground. "We can search the forest for large leaves too. I'm not sure if that'll help, but it's better than nothing, right?" he asked.
"I'd agree with that."
"So you accept my business proposition?"
"Haha." She placed her hand on her stomach, massaging it and sighing. "It doesn't help that I'm starving. Berries are cool and all, but I'll get hungry for real food eventually," she said, removing her grasp from her ragged clothes. Bits of grime hung off the tips of her fingers, and he wasn't sure if that was from touching her mucky shirt, the situation they were in, or an unseen reason. Tae was sure his skin was in similar state.
