Guilt

Omari's POV:

"You're doing too much now," I say as I roll my eyes.

"Excuse me! Don't you dare talk back to me!" My annoying geography teacher complains.

Her face turns red and she looks like she wants to skin me alive. I mean her ancestors would definitely do it.

"Detention after school," my teacher demands.

"But I didn't do anything, just stating facts and you're punishing me for it."

"ENOUGH!"

I lean back in my seat, crossing my arms against my chest and stare at my teacher.

I don't hesitate to say, "It's because I'm black isn't it?"

The whole class gasps at my comment and my teacher leaves the class and slams the door behind her making the whole room shake.

Normally I would sit at the back of the class and never make a scene like that but I was not going to let her embarrass me and gaslight me into thinking I was dumb.

As soon as the bell rings I make my way to detention. Going home is not the best option so I walk into detention sliding past Ms. Smith.

I look up to see Valeria in her black sweater and black mini skirt glaring at Ms. Smith.

We talk for a bit and I notice something is off about Valeria. She doesn't usually do this unless something terrible is going on in her life.

The last time she was acting like this was because her uncle came over once and started touching her. She was too scared to tell anyone about it so she kept it inside and started to isolate herself from everyone including me.

I eventually made her talk to me about what was going on. It made me furious so I got someone to deal with him. She told her mom and all I know is they had a very emotional conversation that ended with a lot of wet tissues.

Later that week, she stopped talking to me when she overheard her mom sobbing on the phone with her dad yelling about how he regrets marrying her mom and having a daughter with her. Her mom still doesn't know Valeria overhead them and she lets his words keep repeating in her head.

I've told her multiple times how much I appreciate her existence but she never believes me. I hope I can show her how much she means to me one day.

Studying Valeria, I notice she doesn't look me in the eyes. The eyes are like the doorway to the soul. Right now she's blocking the entrance.

I suddenly close her laptop forcing her to pay attention to me.

"You're hiding something," I say sternly.

Her vibe changes which prove I'm right.

"I'm not hiding anything," she chuckles.

I know her so well and she doesn't even realize.

"Yes you are, your voice goes higher and you laugh when you're lying."

I'm shocked by what comes out of my mouth. I gently tilt her head up to face me and move her soft hair away from her face.

I look deeply into her eyes telling her she can talk to me.

*****Her eyes are low and dull covered in thick mascara. Her brown skin glows against her dark clothing along with her dark, thick and curly hair.

Shit the things I would do to her.

Not the time to be fantasizing.

I'm reading her like a mystery novel waiting for her story to unfold. I can tell she's hiding something and she knows it.

She suddenly swats my hand away and opens her laptop and she looks at the board trying to avoid my gaze....

"Tell me what the fuck is going on!" I shout as I slam her laptop down.

My reaction startles me too but I hate the fact that she's hiding something that I should know.

"Keep it down", her dramatic English teacher snarls.

I want to tell her to shut the fuck up and stay out of black people's business but instead I whisper, "Is it your dad or your uncle again?"

She still doesn't look at me and murmurs, "No, I don't care about them anymore."

"Did someone do something to you? Tell me cause istg I'm not playing."

I meant every word I said.

"I'll be back in a bit, if you leave there will be serious consequences," Valeria's English teacher interrupts. Her voice is extremely high and annoying.

"Leave me alone," she complains

"Is it me?"

My question already confirms it. Why wouldn't she talk to me if it's about me?

"What did I do?"

"I never said you did anything!"

"So why tf are u avoiding me?"

"Why are u even here?"

"I was apparently 'talking back' and don't fucking change the subject,"

God I hate when she starts deflecting her feelings.

"Of course you were."

"What is that supposed to mean?" I'm usually silent the whole class, now she's just trying to piss me off.

Her eyes water as she forces herself to look at me.

I hate seeing her like this.

"I can't tell you because it's about you." She says on the verge of tears.

In confusion I reply, "Huh that doesn't even make sense."

"I had a dream about us," she huffs.

"What was it abou-"

Before I can finish my sentence she leans in and holds my cheeks in her hand and kisses me. She pulls back a little and I bring her forward.

Her soft glossy lips are on mine and electricity runs through my veins. Both of our tongues collide in our mouths and all I can taste is the sweetness of the juice she drank earlier.

I want all of her but as soon as the thought comes it disintegrates as she pushes me off and shoves her laptop into her backpack. She collects her stuff making her way to the door.

My body shuts off and guilt consumes me.

Why would I kiss her back knowing I can't have her?

I snap out of my thoughts and get out of my seat rush after her. She's walking fast while pulling her skirt down as it lifts with every step she takes.

I run a little to catch up to her and grab her hand.

I struggle to find my voice, whispering, "Wait."

She doesn't look at me but deliberately pulls away from me.

She freezes for a second, but leaves with full speed and slams the door behind her. I can hear Ms. Smith's high pitched voice through the door saying, "Hey! Get back right this instant!"

Valeria doesn't come back and I decide to go back to lessen the consequences and cover for Valeria.

Now I have two problems to think about, getting us to sort this out and where to relieve myself.

It's not my fault she made me hard.
