Day Five

The six of them stumbled out of the hotel at 9am to get on the road. Emmie held tight to Sam's arm with her glasses covering her hungover eyes from the sun. Those two were the only ones hungover as the others knew when to stop. Sam practically had to carry the girl to the car as she wobbled down the road. Jake and Danny walked ahead looking back at the stumbling pair and then the pair behind them with their hands swinging.

Josh and Luanne hadn't spoken about the karaoke night. They hadn't kissed since. They spent the night with the others playing cards while music came through the tv. When Josh waked her to her room that night he didn't stay as he had the night before. She spent the night laying in bed staring at the ceiling for hours thinking about what had happened. Where she had kissed guys in the past it had never left her feeling like that. This kiss made her stomach tumble when she thought about it.

"You seem tired, do you want me to drive for now?" Josh asked her bringing her back to reality as they stepped in front of her car.

"If you don't mind. I can take over later. Just for now I think it's best if you do." She replied with a tired smile making his heart roll in his chest.

Starting the car they began driving south. The end goal was Denver but they all agreed to call when they were ready to stop for the day. It was only around an 8 hour drive but they weren't in a rush. An hour in Luanne had fallen asleep with her camera still fastened around her neck. He couldn't help but smile as she peacefully laid there.

He couldn't stop thinking about the kiss either. It was like a burst of color in a black and white world that he didn't know he was living in. Every moment with her was like that but the kiss was the final blow. Everything about her was fascinating and no amount of time was ever going to be enough.

Before opening her eyes she relished in Josh singing along to her playlist. 'Sunshine on My Shoulders' was playing again as it had 3 days ago and he was quietly going along with the words.

If I had a day that I could give you
I'd give to you the day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I'd sing a song to make you feel this way

She had to fight the urge to sing along or even open her eyes. Luanne knew he would stop if she did, thinking that he woke her up. As he finished singing she opened her eyes sitting upright in her seat. It was the first time she had ever let someone drive Penny. Turning her head to Josh she watched his fingers drum on the steering wheel only stopping when he noticed she was awake.

"Did I wake you up?" Josh nearly shouted wide eyes turned toward her.

"Nope wide awake now though. Need me to drive?" She asked rubbing her eyes harshly before feeling her phone buzz.

"I am so hungover I could die." Emmie's text came through.

"Drink water dumbass. Sorry just woke up." Luanne responded as Josh shook his head no to her offer to drive.

"Sammy is out cold with his head in my lap. His hair is so soft dude. Talk to curly about the kiss? I wasn't even kissing him and I could feel that shit across the bar. Talk to him!" Emmie was right in a sense that they needed to talk about it.

Luanne tilted her head back up to Josh who grinned as he drove down the road. She couldn't help but look to his lips and her stomach went tumbling again.

Pulling into the gas station she walked inside to grab Diet Coke nearly colliding with Jake.

"Josh keeping his eyes on the road Luanne?" Jake questioned making her laugh.
