"Mom, Nadia's coming over today. Is that cool with you?" I asked her.

"I thought you didn't like her. You know for a fact, I don't like her."

"We're going to the same school, I know no one there and she's the only person I know. So I'm trying to be nice until I get the hang of the school."

"Ask your dad," she replied.

When I was in ninth grade, this guy and I had something going on. But he was a freshman in college and I was a freshman in high school. I didn't want anyone to know. Basically just because I didn't want to seem like a little hoe. Yet; Nadia had the nerve to go around telling Alisha, this female I can't stand.

Nadia denied the whole thing, but she was the only person I told and nobody else at the school she went to knew about us; hell, she was the only person who knew in general. It probably doesn't sound like a big deal but she went behind my back and told someone else about my little secret and then lied about it, I didn't enjoy that.

"Dad, can Nadia come over today? Mom said ask you," I found my dad sitting on the couch, watching some sports show.

"Yeah that's fine with me. I don't care." Dad never really did care about anything, honestly. Which in no way made me upset.

"Alright, thanks. You're the best, Father."

I went back to my parents room and saw my mom laying on the bed. She wasn't sleep but she was halfway there. "Nadia'll be here around five, I guess."

"Dad said it was okay?"

"Yeah, he said it was fine."

She gave me a small hmm and kind of shooed me out of the room. Mom doesn't like her because of the story either. She swears she's a fake friend, and in all honesty, she probably is. I wouldn't get close to her again, but I can't be alone in this big high school that I don't even want to go too.

As soon as Dad left for work, Nadia came over. Dad usually leaves around four and Nadia was an hour early and mom didn't really appreciate it since she was still in bed.

"We haven't hung out in forever!" Nadia exclaimed as soon as she stepped into my room.

"Right," I replied. We haven't really talked since ninth grade and this is kind of awkward.

Nadia started talking about all of the things in her life that I've missed since we stopped talking. As soon as she started about some guy that she used to talk too, my phone vibrated.

Julian.

I smiled at my phone and texted him back. It's only been two days since we started talking and last night we stayed up until three talking on the phone. We could have stayed on longer but he fell asleep. It was cute though because he tried staying up just to talk to me.

"What are you smiling at?" she asked me.

"Oh uh, just this guy that I'm texting."

"Just?" she emphasized the word.

"He's just a guy that I met over Instagram."

"He's nobody special?"

I laughed, "Not yet."

"You like him?"

I wasn't going to say too much because the last time our friendship ended, it was over some guy that I just started talking too. And I most definitely don't need everyone knowing I talk to Julian right now.

"Like I said, I just met him so I'm not sure yet. He's cool and cute though, so..."

"Let me see a picture of him," she asked.

I shook my head, "Not yet." She gave me this sound. I felt like she gave me a little attitude but I wasn't going to say anything about it. I hurriedly switched the conversation though. "I so don't want summer to end," I groaned.

"Right! Just when things were getting good, we have to go back to school."

I honestly really didn't do anything this summer. I went to a nerd camp, which wasn't bad actually. I had a good time and learned a few things that I didn't even know about. I also met this girl named Carrie. She was nice and I enjoyed having new company around.

Unfortunately, I haven't talked to her in a couple weeks.

"Who else goes to Harvest High?" I asked, suddenly curious about the school.

"I mean, Ally goes there. You like her right?"

I never really talked to Alison. We had English together in middle school and that was about it. She was pretty and seemed real cool though. "I don't really know her."

"Y'all will get along, I promise. And then the other basic hoes that goes there. She's like the only girl that I really hang around with though."

"Are there cute guys there?"

"Girl! It's this guy named Allen and he is oh so fine." I laughed at the way she talked about him.

I know I can't see Nadia and I being close right now but it's a possibility in the future.

"Shut the fuck up, you dick!" I laughed while talking to Julian. Nadia left about thirty minutes ago when Julian called. She said she was going to let me 'cake' on the phone.

"I'm just saying," he chuckled. "I remember. You had on really hot pink jeans."

"I know, Julian. I looked disgusting."

"We all did in middle school so it's okay."

"I thought I was cute though. Like, I swore I looked really fucking attractive."

"With all them colors on? My sister used to do that, too. She would wear, like, a bright orange top with yellow pants and lime green shoes. I used to fucking hate that."

I feel as if every girl had that stage in their lives where they would only wear bright ass colors that made them stand out. I laughed at the thought and at what Julian had said.

"It's funny now that I look back on it. At least you grew a few inches though."

"Kendall," he groaned.

"What? You was like 4'1."

"I was still taller than you. Still am taller than you actually. Aren't you like 5 feet?"

"I'm 5'3, asshole."

"I'm 5'6."

"That's cute. You're short, but still taller than me. So it's fine."

I hate when girls that will complain if a guy is under 6 foot. If a guy is an inch or two taller than me, then I'm fine. I don't want some guy that I have to stand on a ladder to kiss.

"Stay up with me tonight, Kendall," he said in this really soothing voice, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I smiled, "Of course."
