Tomioka Giyu
"TSUTAKO-NEESAN!!!"
"SABITO NOOO!!!"
"Why?"
"TANJIRO HAS BEEN TURNED INTO A DEMON!"
.
"AAH!" I jolted up from my bed, now in a sitting position as my seven a.m. alarm was beeping. My breathing was rapid, gasping for air as if I just did the heaviest exercise I'd ever done.
'That dream again, huh?' I thought to myself as I calmed down.
You might've realized that I said 'again'. Well, for the last few weeks this dream had been haunting me every second of the day. They didn't only show up as dreams at night, but would also pop up in my senses suddenly at times that I wouldn't expect. It had really been messing with my brain and my ability to focus.
After all that, I slowly got up from my bed and washed my face in the bathroom before going out of my bedroom. I walk to the kitchen to get a glass of water and was greeted by my peach-haired apartment roommate.
"Morning, Giyu!" He said with full of energy.
"Morning, Sabito." I replied with my raspy morning voice.
"Hm? You seem... tired?" Sabito suddenly said. Him and I have been friends since childhood. We've always been there for each other and because we're always together, we can tell what the other is feeling just by a single glance.
"Yeah. Pretty intense nightmare." I said while slightly chuckling.
"No kidding!" He responded while laughing.
"Anyway, you just take a shower; freshen yourself up. It's my turn to make breakfast today, isn't it?" Everyday, we take turns for who makes breakfast in the morning."Alright. Thanks!" I thanked him before realizing something.
"Wait, what time do classes start today?""Nine a.m., so still two hours away. Well, technically speaking there aren't any educational classes, remember? This is the last week of school before we graduate high school. Hence, all the school activities will mostly be preparing for the graduation event that's happening on the weekend in two weeks." He explained.
Speaking of which, both Sabito and I studied at Wisteria Academy, which is one of the best schools in the whole of Japan.
"What about the weekdays in between the next weekend and the weekend after that?"
"Those are just days-off. Free time to prepare for graduation basically."
"Okay. Thanks."
And with that, I went to the bathroom to take a shower while Sabito prepared our breakfast. I stood under the shower and let the water flow down on me, enjoying the warm temperature from the liquid.
.
"Sabito!"
"*sigh* Thank goodness you're safe, Giyu."
"AAAAAAAHHH!!!"
"Somebody needs help. I'll get going, Giyu."
"I'll join yo-"
"Don't! You're wounded. I'll go alone."
"But-"
"Guys, treat him for me, okay."
"No, wait!"
"SABITO NOOO!!!".
"*GASP*... Huff... Huff... What was that?"
Those were the same things that happened in the dream I had in my sleep. The setting was always sometime in the olden times of Japan, seeing from the look of the houses and clothing and overall culture. I was always some sort of samurai or swordsman in those dreams and I'd always be killing these creatures called 'demons'. But, the weirdest thing about them was that the people in the dreams would always be people that I know in real life. They'd have the same faces, the same voices, the same personalities as the ones I know, except that they're set in a time in the past. Not only that, quite often, the dreams would be about those same people that I know of either getting hurt or just dying by the hands of these demons. This is why I'd almost certainly wake up with an expression of terror after experiencing one of the dreams. Very rarely would I get a dream where the things that occur in it was happy or pleasurable.
All the times that I experienced these dreams, they'd always seem very real; a little too real. They seem like memories from times I've never actually experienced. Memories from the past, even. However, I was sure that everything I was seeing in my head were only in my head. Demons weren't and aren't real and reincarnations don't exist. Even if they do exist, I was quite certain I'm not a reincarnate of somebody from the past.
Right?
Anyway, unbeknownst to myself, I was kneeling on my right knee while looking straight down to the ground as the water was raining on my back. I finally gained back my senses and stood back up to continue cleaning myself.
'*sigh* Not the best start for the day.'
.
"This is new." I spoke as I looked at the meal.
"I've always wanted to try making my own pancakes. So, here it is." Sabito exclaimed.
"Hmm..."
"What's wrong?" The one with the scar on his right cheek asked.
"Aren't you supposed to eat this with honey or something?"
"Oh! Right." He said in realization.
"Here."We then poured honey on our individual pancakes and then ate a little slice as a taste test.
"Hm. Actually not too bad." I said before munching on more of the food.
"Yeah! I'm actually quite proud of myself, hehe!"
And so, we both ate all that Sabito made for the morning, which I did really enjoy. It was now eight a.m. We got ready, wore our school uniforms, and prepared all that we would potentially need in our bags. Finally, we walked out of our room, took the elevator down, and walked out of the apartment building and energetically went to the direction of our school.
We'd sometimes ride our bikes, but today we had quite a lot of time before the classes started so we didn't have any need to rush and just walked instead.
Perhaps, this day wasn't going to be too bad, after all.
