Reina's POV
I felt a mix of anxiety and sadness as I looked around my now nearly empty home. Everything that made it mine, my little touches, my memories, and the comfort it brought me, was being packed away into boxes. The reality of leaving this place, where I'd built my life after everything fell apart with my family, was starting to sink in. The thought of moving in with the vampires, who had once been my cats, made my stomach churn, not knowing if I'd survive or how long I would.
I glanced over at Azusa, who was sitting beside me on the now bare sofa. His presence was oddly comforting amid the chaos, his droopy lilac eyes mirroring my own feelings of loss. We were both caught in this whirlwind, trying to hold onto some semblance of normalcy while everything else spun out of control.
Azusa's soft and uncertain voice broke the silence. "Will you sit with me on the way there?" He looked up at me, his eyes filled with a mix of hope and nervousness. His cute demeanour would always fill my heart.
I gave him a gentle smile, trying to reassure him and myself. "Sit with you?"
"Mmmhummm," he nodded, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Okay. Sure, I'll sit next to you," I replied, my heart aching at the thought of the journey ahead. At least, with Azusa by my side, I wouldn't feel entirely alone.
As we finished packing the last few boxes, I felt a sense of finality wash over me. This was really happening. We were moving to a new house, and my old life was slipping away. But as I looked at Azusa, I reminded myself that I wasn't completely alone in this change.
.
.The move itself was a blur. The car ride was quiet, with only the sound of the engine and the occasional shift in position to break the silence. Azusa sat beside me, his hand resting lightly on mine as if to anchor himself and me in this tumultuous time. His presence was a small comfort in the sea of uncertainty.
When we arrived at the new house, I was taken aback by its size and grandeur. It was nothing like my old home. It was more significant, opulent, and a stark reminder of the new life I was thrust into. The grand foyer and expansive rooms felt alien, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of loss for the more straightforward, cosier space I was leaving behind.
We stepped inside, and I could see the others already starting to unpack and organise, the size and grandness of the home obviously having no effect on them. Reiji was barking orders, directing everyone to their tasks, while Kanato and Laito seemed to be setting up their items leading up the stairs. The rooms were already being pre-selected.
I looked at Azusa, who was still by my side. His usual quiet demeanour now accompanied a slight nervousness as he tried to adjust to the new environment. "It's going to be okay," I said, reassuringly squeezing his hand. We'll get used to it."
He nodded, though his expression remained apprehensive. "Yes, it will be... okay," he said softly, more to himself than to me.
Deciding to stay out of the way, I grabbed a box filled with kitchen necessities and started my way through one of the large corridors, hoping to find the kitchen.
.
.The grand entrance hall of the new house felt cavernous compared to my old home, and I couldn't help but feel very overwhelmed. The air was filled with the clattering of boxes and the murmurs of the other vampires as they settled into their new spaces. The whole process was a whirlwind, and I found myself clinging to any semblance of normality that I could muster. This is highly minimal.
I carried the box of kitchen supplies through the house, trying to find the kitchen amid the maze of new rooms and corridors. As I walked, I caught glimpses of the others as they unpacked and arranged their new surroundings. The house was beautiful, no doubt, but it felt so foreign, so starkly different from what I was used to, and I wasn't 100% sure if it was a big difference. It almost felt suffocating knowing that my entire life was changing, not to mention the contract I was now sold to.
Finally, I found the kitchen—a spacious, modern room with gleaming appliances and countertops that seemed to stretch forever. I set the box down on the counter and started unpacking it, trying to focus on the task to keep my mind off the unsettling changes.
Azusa appeared behind me, and his presence initially terrified me. He had taken it upon himself to follow me instead of unpacking his own boxes, and his eyes showed concern as he watched me work.
"Do you ...need any ..help?" he asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper. The way he said it, with that gentle tone, made the daunting task seem a little less overwhelming.
"Sure, if you don't mind," I replied, offering him a small, grateful smile. "It might be a bit of a mess, but it'll be nice to get the kitchen sorted out."
He nodded and began helping me unpack. His small, delicate hands were surprisingly efficient, and we worked side by side in a comfortable silence. As we worked, I felt the tension in my shoulders ease slightly, and I found solace in the simple, repetitive tasks of arranging kitchen utensils and organising pantry items. I made sure to keep him far away from any sharp objects, remembering a few weeks ago when I found out about his masochistic tendencies.
After a while, the kitchen began to take shape. The counters were cleared, and the cabinets started to fill with the necessities. The sense of accomplishment from making progress, no matter how small, was comforting.
Once we finished the kitchen, I took a moment to sit at the kitchen table. Azusa joined me, sitting across from me with a contented sigh. The room was starting to feel warmer, like home, even though I knew his place wasn't mine.
"Thank you, Azusa," I said, my voice sincere. "I appreciate your help. It's nice to have someone to work with, especially in all this chaos."
He gave me a shy smile, his lilac eyes softening. "I... I'm glad to help," he replied. "I know this... is a lot. But we... we can get through it together."

I wrote this chapter ages ago but didn't finish it. I couldn't decide whether to completely republish this story as a new book, especially considering how bad the other chapters are. I'm still undecided, but this is better than nothing since it's been a while.
