- This is real-world Aubrey! (if you couldn't already tell)

Hey guys, not that into omori anymore but I wanted to write something so there might be more revisions coming along. I have better stories I might publish too idk.

PSA - Revised - March 10, 2024

Faraway town was as calm as it gets.

I twisted my earbuds into my ears, turned on my playlist, and made my way to the park. There was a cool breeze that flowed through the autumn air, sending a shiver throughout my body when I opened the door. I yanked my sweatshirt off the coat hook and threw it on last minute, thinking it was for the better.

When I got to the park, no one was there. Strange, but, I figured most would want to stay inside on colder days like today. I plopped myself down onto a swing, my hand wrapping around the cold metal chains, and pushing off the ground with my feet to get it going. I didn't try to go too high, like the little kids who occupied them during the summer who chased after the closest feeling to flying.

After a couple of minutes, I felt someone tap my shoulder. I looked up to see Aubrey. She had the most gorgeous silk black hair I had ever seen, and judging by her outfit choice of sweatpants and a sweater, I figured she wasn't up to much today either. I paused my music and took an earbud out.

"Hey Y/n, I've been looking for you everywhere!" she exclaimed. Although her voice seemed irritated, the grin creeping up on her face said otherwise.

"Really? What's up?"

"Come with me" she replied. She took my hand in hers and walked me to the grocery store just next to the park.

We stood in front of the hair dye section. The hums of the freezers filled the air, and the light blue fluorescent lights illuminated the section. Her eyes squinted, and a finger curled infront of her lips. Her head was slightly tilted as she got lost in the different possibilities of colors she could choose from. I had to admit, I was slightly upset. I always loved her hair. But I loved seeing her happy more, so I decided not to say much about it.

Finally, she reached out to two different colors.

"Okay Y/n... Pink or blonde?" She held the boxes of dye up to my face as she said each color.

"Why not both?"

"You aren't making this easy" She laughed

"Well, you could do blonde with pink streaks maybe?"

"Nah"

"Okay... well we'd have to bleach your hair blonde either way"

"Oh my gosh y/n! You're right" She put them both in the basket, along with some snacks, and we made our way towards the checkout.

We decided to go to my house while we were walking out of the store. The sky was blanketed by vibrant pinks and purples, as the sun descended into the horizon. I figured she'd probably just end up sleepover. We stepped into my house and set everything on the kitchen table.

"Mom? Dad? Is anyone home?" I called out. No reply. I looked to Aubrey, who just shrugged her shoulders at me. "Well, let's do this"

I let her play the music she wanted. We talked and talked as I massaged the bleach through her hair. We talked about school, gossiped, and shitted on the people we didn't like. For the first time since Mari's death, things felt normal. I felt like nothing had ever happened to me, and I was just a normal teenager.

Now and then, I'd catch myself staring at her through the mirror. While she talked, laughed, smiled. I forgot how much I'd missed this Aubrey.

When it was time to let the bleach sit, we both headed to the kitchen. I set the timer as we started getting into the snacks we bought. Without my parents around, it felt like we were already adults. Already on our own out in the world.

We continued our conversation. She sat at the seat across from me, talking in between bites of chips or her gummy worms until the timer went off.  After I rinsed out the bleach, I blow-dried her hair and styled it for her. I had her face me while I did it so it would be a surprise when she saw it.

"Okay, now look" I spun her chair around so she could see it through the mirror. I loved the blonde on her. Her mouth hung open a bit. "Do you like it?"

"Yeah, but let's do pink," she said, looking up at me and smiling.

So we repeated the process but with the pink box. It was a light pink, that I thought would seriously suit her. It went with her eyes, and her style, and contrary to popular belief, her personality too.

"Okay, you can look now" I spun her chair around, after styling her hair again. The same way I did the blonde hair. A smile immediately overtook her features.

"Oh my gosh! y/n!!" She jumped up and tackled me into a hug, resting her head on my neck. "Thank you so much! I love it! I love it! I love it!" She pushed herself away but kept her hands resting on my shoulders. My heart was practically jumping out of my chest, and butterflies ate away at my stomach. I smiled too.

We both stayed still. The music filled the void of silence that enveloped us. My brain fell quiet as well. I felt nauseous and super sweaty as I tried to maintain eye contact. I noticed her smile faltered a bit, and her eyes moving slightly under my eyes. Suddenly, she pulled me by my shoulders and kissed me. It was quick but soft. After she pushed me away again, my mouth hung open. My brain stayed silenced. I blinked a couple of times processing what she just did.

"Did you mean to do that?" I asked.

"... yeah. Obviously." She laughed. "kinda looks like you missed it though" I laughed too.

Although the rest of the night was slightly awkward (as it always is the first day of being in a relationship), I think we both found our way. Pushing through the final stage of grief, regret, and resentment, to reach the acceptance we had been silently begging for all those years.
