"I can't reach!"

Huh? Chifuyu thought. Who was that? He glanced around the corner of the bookshelf. A girl was struggling to reach a book on the highest shelf in the next aisle of the bookstore. She sighed and then tried to reach again.

Aww, she's kind of cute, Chifuyu thought to himself.

Just then, she turned around to ask a worker for help and noticed him.

"Excuse me," she frowned, hands on her hips. "Instead of just gawking at me like that, maybe you could offer some help?"

"Uh, um," Chifuyu stuttered. The words just wouldn't come out; they were just stuck there at the top of his throat.

"Oh, never mind it; move it," she shoved past him and headed towards the bookstore's front desk.

Kawaii, Chifuyu stared after her, and a slight blush started to color his cheeks. Maybe I should ask for her number? He started to head towards the front desk as well.

"Hey, Chifuyu!" Takemichi came running over. "Did you get the book you wanted? Then, let's go and grab some ice cream. It's so hot today!"

"Uh...yeah, let's go, I guess," Chifuyu mumbled as he followed Takemichi to the register. He sighed, wondering if he had lost his opportunity to get his first girlfriend ever.

"Hey! Chifuyu!"

Chifuyu blinked. "Yeah, Takemichi?"

"You're not buying anything?"

"Oh, uh, they didn't have the book I was looking for," Chifuyu didn't remember if he had checked or not.

"Uh-huh," Takemichi didn't sound convinced. "Well, whatever; let's go get ice cream."

Chifuyu followed Takemichi out of the bookstore, but he paused to glance back into the store. That girl wasn't anywhere to be seen. I guess...we weren't meant to be.

Chifuyu blankly followed Takemichi into the ice cream store. He picked a random flavor and...

"Chifuyu, I thought you hated that flavor."

"Huh?" Chifuyu looked at his ice cream. "I didn't notice; I guess I'm kind of out of sort today."

"I'll say you are! First of all, here's the book you needed; I got it for you. Second, it's not like you to choose your least favorite flavor of ice cream, even if you're not feeling well. Did something happen?"

"Nothing...nothing," Chifuyu took a bite of his ice cream and turned his attention to outside the store. A very familiar-looking girl was walking past.

Chance, Chifuyu thought to himself as he bolted out of his seat.

"Chifu-" Takemichi was cut off as Chifuyu's ice cream cone splattered over his new shirt. "MATSUNO CHIFUYU!!"

Of course Chifuyu didn't hear the yell; he was already catching up to her. He reached out to grab her shoulder, but somebody grabbed him from behind.

"All right, Matsuno Chifuyu," a very angry Takemichi snapped. "I need to talk to you...now."

Not again... Chifuyu inwardly groaned. Now that he thought of it, it was Takemichi who had interrupted the first time he had tried to get her phone number, hadn't it? He sighed.

"Takemichi, let me go, will you? I have something urgent to do."

Without waiting for an answer, Chifuyu jerked himself out of Takemichi's grasp and ran off.

"Are you kidding me?!" Takemichi chased after him. Or...he tried to. "Where on earth did he go?"

Chifuyu randomly chose a direction to go. He was going to find her no matter what. If we are fated, I'll definitely meet her somehow.

As he turned a corner, he crashed into someone and fell down.

"You again?"

"Huh?" Chifuyu looked up.

A certain girl was standing over him. She sighed as she offered her hand to him. Chifuyu eagerly grabbed her hand.

"What's your name?" he asked her.

"It's Baji Chinatsu; what's yours?"

"Ba..." Chifuyu cut off. No way she's related to Baji-san. She's too pretty and elegant and...

"Hey! I asked you what your name is."

"It's...Chifuyu. You can just call me Chifuyu."

"No last name? Interesting, Chifuyu," Chinatsu smiled at him.

With that smile, Chifuyu felt like the heavens were smiling on him.

"Will you marry me?"

"WHAT?!"
