The way back to LA is long and tiring, we take turns to drive. Fortunately the SUV had a medical kit therefore Nathan's wound has been taken care of. The entire ride is awfully silent probably because all of us were exhausted but mostly cause none of us has anything to say. A lot has happened within the past few weeks.
Scarlett still hasn't uttered a single word the entire time, she keeps looking at the scenes that pass by. Her gaze fixed on the world outside the window as she engulfs herself in her own thoughts.
Strange. The word expressing exactly the kind of situation I am in. After my encounter with Scarlett I never thought I would crash into her again not that I even wanted to. To me that night was a terrible experience, a mistake that I intend to never repeat, yet I am here now sharing a car with her while she sat in the backseat. Silently looking at the mountains and cliffs as they pass by, her face holds yet no expression as if behind that poker face there's a mess, a cluttered mess which she herself is trying to sort out.
I was furious back when I saw Nathan's arm bleeding, thankfully the bullet had just grazed the skin. A strong wave of guilt washes over me as I recall I was the one to grab them into this shit.
They could've been killed today.
Yet no one but I am to blame for this. If only I had listened to Nathan about the watch, but I had to pull them to San Francisco with me. Amid the chaos, Ash had somehow found it, I returned the stupid watch back to Nathan as soon as I got hold of it. He protested me against it but my single glare was enough to keep him put.
Entire ride I feel like I am drowning myself further in guilt while the person who is actually responsible for all this mess is merely sitting back enjoying the view.
Last time I didn't bother asking her any questions because it wasn't my business to do so which she had so subtly stated. But now things are different someone had died, we were attacked by armed men and Nathan had been injured. I can't turn a blind eye I need to find the person responsible, it is my duty to do so.
I need answers and she's going to give them to me.
Hook or by crook.
It's 7:15 when we we're on the way to LA. I am almost asleep when Ash takes the wheel and I sink further into sleep.
Not even an hour later a loud voice in my ear wakes me up. "I'M HUNGRY" rubbing my sleep dazed eyes I glare at Ash. He smiles sheepishly as the car comes to halt. Looking back I could see Nathan awake and Scarlett, it seems like she didn't sleep in the first place, her gaze set still outside the window. One by one we all get out of the car making our way in while she walked ahead all of us. Arrogance radiating off her as she walks in confidently as if she owns the place. But no matter how far and long she walks she isn't getting away without giving us some answers. I'll make sure of that.
