Sad Truths

We sat in the living room and talked about our friendship. I glanced outside, the sky had turned black and she had fallen asleep on the sofa. I picked her up and laid her in my bed. Then I grabbed a new blanket and laid down on the sofa. I looked at the ceiling and thought about where Ilya had been all this time, before I knew it I was fast asleep.

In the morning I woke up to humming and cooking. Ilya was cooking and humming the tune that she hummed when she walked into my forest. How I missed that tune and hum. I got up to wash my face. She set up the table and turned to see me getting up.

"Good morning," she said with a big smile "I don't remember much but for some reason I was able to cook this meal and hum this tune that was stuck in my head," she said.

I just walked to wash my face, and when I got back she was sitting waiting for me. On the table was Sunnyside eggs, bacon, sausage, a bowl of rice, plates, some pork cooked with bok choy. I sat down and started eating.

"Your name is O-sa-mu, right?" She said.

I nodded my head with my mouth full. It had been awhile since I had a meal cooked by someone else.

"Osamu, who is that woman in the picture in your room?" She asked.

I swallowed the food in my mouth and said "that is my mom, she moved to the countryside to retire,"

"Do you know where my mother is?" She said.

"No," I said to her, then noticing that she didn't touch her food I said "eat your food,".

She looked at her plate, "I don't feel hungry," she said. She sat there and waited for me to eat. After I ate she asked me "could you help me find my mom?"

"Sure, anything to keep you happy," I said to her. A smile came to her face.

I looked up any way I could find the location of her parents. Nothing on her dad, nothing on her mom, but I found the triplets.

I reached out to them, but it seemed that they were busy. After a couple of days I finally got in contact with the triplets and we scheduled a meeting. They are in high school now.

I met the triplets at a caffea. They each had a different color shirt on. One was in blue, one was in red, and one was in green.

"Nice to meet you," said the one in red.

"Nice to meet you all," I said back.

"Who are you exactly," said the one in blue.

"You guys are from the Ilya family, correct?" I asked.

"Correct," said the one in green.

"I am Tsushina's friend, Osamu Taiji," I said. As soon as they heard me say her name they looked at each other.

"Sir, Tsushina passed away a while ago," said the one in red.

"What do you mean she passed away?" I asked them.

The one in blue cleared his throat, "November 10th, 2002, she was kidnapped after she was coming home from school," he said.

The one in green cleared his throat and continued, "she disappeared for a week, then they found her body at a bridge."

The one in red looked at me, "Sir, our sister was raped and she jumped off a bridge"

Then I realized that they could not see her, who was sitting next to me, crying.

"Thanks for telling me," I said "it's nice to meet you all,"

I got up and walked out to my car. Tsushina got in the car with me and I calmed her down.

"Am I really dead?" She cried.

"I don't know," I said to her.

Then I remembered why other kids and adults never liked me. I could see ghosts. I stopped talking about them because my dad would beat up my mom if I did.

I felt dizzy. I didn't know what to do. Why did it have to be me, why did it have to be like this. I drove home and sat on the sofa. I feel drained of emotions. Tsushina sat next to me and we just sat in silence.

I looked at her and held her in my arms, "whoever did this, I'm going to make them pay" I said.
