In truth, he wasn't there to grab much. Only simple things. One after another, he scavenged the small reminders of his family, from clips to strips of fabric. It was all he needed. All he sought to hold onto. After all, he'd been given a new home. A future that was brighter than his past. Bringing too much from the tragedy he'd suffered through would only haunt him. It was the main reason he stuck to small things, including his younger sister Nezuko's bracelet. It had been a gift from Tanjirou for her birthday, left behind the day she turned from the family and set out for her own ambitions.
Pulling the bracelet closer, he let it hang from his own wrist as he smiled sadly. He always wondered what happened with her. Why had she left? But those sorts of questions never got answered and with his family long gone, there was no one to offer any voice on the matter. Tanjirou was truly lost and lacking in knowledge of his remaining family member. The last person who shared his own bloodline with him. He'd have gladly searched for her, but she had made her choice. She was living for herself, so he felt it was impossible. Who was he to interrupt her happiness?
Taking a long breath, Tanjirou took one more glance around. There was still a heavy aroma of blood, but he ignored it as he shifted toward the main door once more. Tugging it free, he felt the cool winter air that engulfed his body, drying his eyes that he hadn't realized had begun to water. It left him wiping at them before he heard rushed footsteps, drawing his gaze. It made him smile lightly seeing those around him. Seeing Daki in her state of panic. Gyutaro in his confusion and concern. As well as Muzan in his sincerity. It truly was a nice feeling, seeing so many eyes that still held him in the light, even under the moons hold.
"Are you alright, Tanjirou?" Daki's words were soft, leaving the maroon to nod slowly. He took in one more breath, steadying his heart as he peered back once more.
"I'll be fine in due time. It's just the memories of my home that seem to hurt me still." There was a silence before another voice spoke up, one that hadn't spoken to Tanjirou once. After all, Akaza wasn't the type. He didn't do thing that weren't like him, expect for in that moment.
"Even so, you've got a new home with us. You're not alone." Tanjirou felt himself smile lightly, his gaze locking onto Akaza briefly.
"You're right. Thank you, truly." A simple nod was offered in turn, leaving Muzan to clap his hands together as he spoke calmly.
"You've collected all you need, correct?"
"I have. I didn't own many clothes to begin with, so I just grabbed things to remember my family members. Some mementos." Muzan gave a silence as he once more offered a hand, Tanjirou taking hold of it as his bracelet shifted a bit, a small chime ringing out. It left most taking note of it before Tanjirou once more closed his eyes, ignoring the sensation of falling as they once more left the mountain side.
~~~~~~~~~ Hours Later ~~~~~~~~~
It had been early morning before she found herself at the place, she once called home. The place she grew up in. How long had it been since she'd last returned? In a way, it made her feel guilty when the news fell upon her. When she heard of the news that a demon had attacked her home. That her family had been killed without mercy. It was a hard truth for her. For Nezuko, she left to ensure she could protect them. But it was hopeless, and it made her enraged and holding a sensation of revenge that she sought.
"Nezuko, we don't have to stop here if you're not ready to face the situation..."
"There is no need, Giyuu. I appreciate the concern, but this is something I must view. I'm at fault for leaving them behind." The raven seemed to fall silent, taking a long breath. He knew just how she felt, leaving him to understand when to back down. It left Nezuko finally cresting the slope to view the house that seemed so eerie. So empty and dull.
Her footsteps forged themselves within the snow as she grew closer, taking in the state of the house along with the mounds on the ground, all labeled with a stick as an identifier. It of course drew concern, seeming as not many climbed the mountain and the village had yet to hear the news. Nezuko only found out through Giyuu, who had been in the area.
Keeping her guard, she pulled the door open to the main house before smelling the dried blood that still remained. It left her to keep the door open in hopes of airing the space out. Slowly she entered, sifting through some of the belongings. It still worried her why the bodies were buried. Chewing along her fingernail, she heard Giyuu approach the door before he leaned quietly in the doorway, his blue eyes scanning the dark space.
"I figured a demon attack would cause more damage." Nezuko nodded.
"It should be messier, but maybe this was planned out. Maybe a demon of higher rank cause this."
"It could explain the organization still present. But it still means a demon caused your family's death. I only pray it isn't a Uppermoon or even the Demon King himself..." Nezuko frowned, dragging her nails along the wood before she scoffed. Her other hand remained on her katana, gaze narrowing and holding a cold appeal.
"I don't care who or what it was. Demon King or not, I'll avenge my family. I'll get revenge and kill every lowly, disgusting demon this world holds." Her gaze fell toward something she couldn't help but pick up. A small trinket she had made for Tanjirou, something he cherished dearly. It left her to pin it along her clothes before she turned on her heels, refusing to look back as she began moving once more through the snow. As she began to descend the mountain, only a small whisper leaving her lips and being whisked away with the wind of the morning. "I'll do what I must to avenge you, Tanjirou. To avenge everyone; I promise..."
