~3rd Person POV~

"Morta, on your way out, take this piece of advice: Sometimes the person you would take a bullet for is the one behind the trigger," the Prince yelled through the crystal gate.

Prince Helios, the crown prince of Alfhiem, was watching her closely as the girl, known as Morta, walked away from the kingdom and into the woods. Morta's cheeks were stained with tears as she trudged her way out of the home she has known since she was born. Morta was cast out but noticed the people's behavior towards her too late.

Everyone in the kingdom was born with some sort of magick, no matter who they were. Most kids got Light Magick or Spring Magick, some were lucky and got Star Magick or something concerning an element like water or fire, but Morta was different. She had magick just like the rest of them, but she controlled the shadows and the darkness. She was the first to control such a formidable force in a world full of light and happiness. Many of the people, including the Queen and her children, feared her. The Queen could sense the level of power in any magickal person, and when she felt Morta's she was blown away. She had power like no other.

Morta always loved her kingdom and the people in it. Only recently had they been so cruel to her. They never judged her, they were just apprehensive at first. Now, it was different. So, much to her dismay, Morta had been cast out of the kingdom she thought of as home. Why me? What did I ever do to them? She thought as she walked through the woods. There was a specific rule that everyone had to follow: never go into the woods without a party of three or more. What was she supposed to do now? She wasn't going to force anyone else into exile with her.

Prince Helios, on the other hand, was overjoyed Morta was gone. Sure, she was a nice friend, but sacrifices have to be made. He thought she would eventually overthrow him and his sister, Celestial. Helios thought about his other friends who were eventually against the idea, Andromeda and Vix. Andromeda was one of the few people who had Star Magick. Vix controlled two different elements, Water and Air. Helios and his sister had Light Magick.

He thought about the upcoming war. He was fourteen right now, making him approximately seventeen when the war was going to start. Their main enemy, the Dark Kingdom, has become increasingly dangerous over the years, so his mother brought something up with the council and they were to charge a war in about three years. His friends would train and would help the army to take down the Dark Kingdom once and for all.

~Morta's POV~

I had been walking in the forest for two days by now. I had no idea of what I was going to do, where I was going to go, what I could encounter. Obviously monsters, they always prowled in the forest, no matter the time of day or night. I tried to sleep last night, but I just couldn't. Nightmares of what happened yesterday haunted me. Maybe they were scared of me? I couldn't blame them, I was the first one since the dawn of time to have Shadow Magick in a place that idolizes Light. Also, within my first few years with my magick, I had immense control and power over it.

"Why? Why did you curse me?" I yelled out in frustration to no one in particular.

I was just so angry about what they did. I thought Helios was my friend, but he was the one to kick me out. My thoughts lingered back to a distant memory that happened a few years ago. A dear friend of mine, Ash, was also exiled. After a few weeks, we presumed him dead. Nobody has survived the forest alone for long periods of time.

Not to mention the Dark Border. The Dark Border is the "line" that separates Alfhiem from the Dark Kingdom. It's in the exact middle of the woods and guards for the Dark Army patrol it twenty-four seven. Maybe I could go there, just end my life now. Before that dark thought could continue, a growl erupted from my right.
