Today was the day I swore to talk to Michael, I'm so nervous. We haven't talked since last school year in 11th grade what If he doesn't remember me. I don't have him in any of my classes which makes it even harder for me to start a conversation with him. I usually see him in lunch and after 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and after school. Hopefully I can grow some balls and talk to him. It was almost time for lunch, I'm scared. Can I back out now?
I walked to the lunch line and got my food. The food here is so disgusting I don't even eat lunch. I walked over with my tray over to the table where me and mark normally sit. It was unusual cause he was talking to some people that I normally see around in my classes. As I was about to sit down mark had stopped talking to introduce me to them.
"Maya this is Ashley, Carlos, Antonio, and Daniel" he said as I waved 'hello' to them.
I sat down and started looking around like I was trying to find Michael.
"Are you looking for Michael?"
Mark whispered in my ear so the others wouldn't hear our conversation.
I turned to look at mark and said yes and started to giggle a bit. I found Michael standing in the lunch line. I decided to get up and walk over towards him. As I started to get closer and closer I had realized I had nothing to start a conversation with. I got so close I didn't know what to do. I decided to 'accidentally' bump into him. As I got closer I nudged my elbow by his arm as if I didn't mean to. He suddenly turned around.
"Hey!"
He said in a kinda loudish manner.
"Shit sorry I didn't mean to bump into you"
Even though I did.
"It's okay, hey aren't you Maya?"
In my head I'm vision a million butterflies, he remembers me!
"Ya, Michael was it?"
I said as if I hadn't said his name in forever.
"I haven't seen you in forever how are you?"
"I've been good how are you these days?"
I started to blush a little, I haven't talked to him in what seems like a decade.
"Good, good. I heard you got into a little fight yesterday hmm? I heard you beat her so hard she couldn't get up" he said chuckling.
I started to laugh.
"I guess you could say that but I have to get back to my friends now so I'll see you around?"
"Yeah, I'll see you around"
I proceeded to walk off smiling like a happy child in a candy shop.
Michaels pov
I had just seen Maya a girl from last year that I use to make small talk with. She's changed a lot. She looks better then she did last year if you ask me and she has ass for days! I'd certainly tap. I thought she had moved to another school or something I haven't seen her around this year, she must've been keeping herself lowkey. Not much if I heard about her little fight yesterday.
I guess you could say I missed her, but not really we barley talked last year anyways. But it was nice talking to her again.
Maya's pov
I had walked back to the table to see Mark still talking to his friends or whatever her calls them now. I Sat down still smiling like an idiot as Mark leaned in again to whisper something in my ear.
"I see you talked to him"
"I'll tell you about it later" I replied smirking
After lunch we went to 6th period and I had realized the girl Ashley that was sitting with us at the lunch table was in my class. I haven't noticed her all year. I decided to say hi and make small talk, she seems really nice.
After school
I waited for Mark by the bus loop and he took forever so I started to walk home by myself. As I got home I took a shower and got ready for work. I worked at a small restaurant where possibly nobody even knew or heard off called 'little spices' it wasn't much but at least I got paid enough for what I want plus, I would be moving out my parents house soon after graduation and I've been saving for my apartment Mark helped me save.
I couldn't wait for the weekend I don't work then. And I could hang out with Mark and chill. My phone was ringing while I was in the shower. It was mark he had called 8 times. I called the number back to see what was wrong.
"Hello?" I asked
"Maya! Where were you after school? I didn't see you. Did you walk home by yourself?? Can I come by?"
I sighed of relief thinking it was something more important.
"I was looking for you after school but you took too long to meet me and you know I have work so ya I walked home alone but yeah you can come by."
"Im sorry I was talking to my friends I introduced you to today."
"Its okay but I got to go I'm at work I'll see you tonight"
"Okay bye"
After work
9:16 pm
I got home and decided to call Mark to tell him to come over. My parents were fine with us hanging out since they knew there how long we've been friends and nothing more. After about 2 minutes I hear a knock at the door. It was Mark. I let him in and he said hi to my parents as if this is his second home.
We went upstairs where my room is and he sat down on my bed.
"So are you gonna tell me what happend at lunch today with Michael?"
I told him everything that happend and he said that's great and asked if I'm gonna talk to him more.
"I don't know he didn't ask for my number or kik but he follows me on instagram I guess I can dm him"
"What's stopping you?"
"Fear."
There was a pause in the room. Mark suddenly got up and came over by me looked me in the eyes and said
"Fear is just one thing keeping you away from what you really want. And if you can't take a little rejection how are you gonna survive in this world?"
His words hit me. I had to face my fears at some point.
"You're right I'll do it later" I said
"I know I am"
he said all cocky and started to smile
"Whatever" I said
"I should get going now, I had an essay due tomorrow for Mr. R and I haven't started"
"You're always doing your work late but I'll walk you to the door"
