Snapping out of trance
aghast at her own actions
she looked at him, eyes widened!

Countless apologizes slipped her mouth
embarrassment in its zenith enveloping her
unable to comprehend her own demeanor!

His voice sterner than before interrupted her
effectively quietening her,
and commanded to place back the bundle in her arms!

As she placed the child back,
the loss of her warmth left a void,
and she moved back towards the desk, looking completely agonized!

"Sit" he commanded
and she settled down, a nervous wreck
but the next words he spoke left her entirely speechless!

A rebuke or insults
was what she had expected
never those words he had uttered instead!

"What?"she couldn't help but exclaim
too shocked and unable to process,
was she still in some kind of daze then?

His explanation left her conflicted,
torn between trusting a stranger and her own connection
torn between her own doubts and her need to choose the child that needed affection,
it left her to an arduous contemplation!

She stood up and made her way
this time not in a daze,
seeking help to reach a decision!

One look and she knew
she would, for this child, anything do
And what more worse could wreck her world
when she had already faced a betrayal so worse!

He could feel her embarrassment
which echoed in her repeated apologies
but that she was still unapologetic of the moment she had shared sometime back,
made the decision more easy.

He had no idea if this step was right or wrong
Neither did he know if she would play along
All he could do was lay out the facts
and pray that she understands!

In a moment where all of his courage he gathered,
a strict interruption was enough to put a stop to her babble
a sterner command to place his little girl away
and he could clearly see her deflate!

It affirmed his decision and he took deep breaths
Watching her as she took hesitant steps
It felt like ages before she reached the desk
and stood before it, frozen in her steps!

"Sit" he commanded
causing her to obey instantly
she was a nervous wreck
expecting a rebuke evidently!

He knew he had just a moment
to make his point uninterrupted
and so he declared those words
bracing himself for the consequences!

"What?" she exclaimed evidently shocked
visibly unable to believe it all
he sighed as he understood this
and began patiently explaining things!

He told her it all without leaving out anything,
it amazed him how much easy it was to tell her everything,
she sat through it patiently, a good listener,
and then he saw a familiar conflict evident in her demeanor!

She stood up and walked towards the crib
Evidently contemplating,
he saw a plethora of emotions play on her,
from his view of her!

And then she turned, her dark orbs meeting his,
an emotion of a different kind was to be seen in them,
her eyes had conveyed all that he had to know!
