Aubrey's point of view
The stress was high. Everyone was counting on me to find eight perfect girls with beautiful voices and fit bodies to help us win the acapella competition this year for the Barden Bella's. To say I had a lot of work was an understatement, and it was nobody's fault but my own because I tarnished our reputation when I threw up on stage during our performance at the finals last year. If that wasn't bad enough, it got even worse thanks to this generation and their fascination with recording and posting everything online. The whole world had a front row seat to that horrible fiasco at their fingertips. So yeah, I definitely had my hands full this semester in trying to make up for that disaster. Luckily, I had my right hand girl, Chloe to assist me. With us working side by side it had me feeling a bit more confident that we could have a better shot at salvaging what I'd managed to ruin with the Barden Bella's.
Speaking of which...Chloe and I circled to look at the very group called the Treble Makers, who yet again took the winning trophy at the finals that day, and it was no surprise that they were currently showing off their vocals like the egotistical douchebags they were.
I hated them with a passion and it had nothing to do with me being a sore loser and not being able to accept defeat. No, it was because they were obnoxious, rude, and overly conceited and I meant that in every sense of the word. On top of that, they repeatedly made remarks to us every opportunity they got, and if you asked me, they didn't deserve any of those trophies they won for that exact matter. Especially the leader of the group, Bumper. He was the cruelest one of them all, and you'd think someone in his position would value having respect and would be supportive of their fellow school rivals, but no. As a matter of fact, he was the sole tyrant and thought it was fun to be mean, and he sure as heck had no qualms allowing his teammates to copy his actions either.
I could feel myself fuming inside just thinking of all the offensive things we've endured because of them. I was sick of watching them win first place in the acapella championships every year and standing there behind the curtains as they accepted the trophy only to flaunt their success in our faces as they passed us by.
No more.
This year things were going to be different. We were going to be the winners. The Barden Bella's we're going to be the ones standing on that stage taking what was rightfully ours because we deserved to be successful just as much as anyone else. We could do just about everything any acapella team could do, well, maybe except hitting deep notes because we were an all female group, but still, that didn't take away from the facts. I didn't care that we were the only ones that chose to have all girls and that we haven't managed to win a single championship yet because I was going to do everything in my power to make sure that we did this year. No matter what it took. Nothing or no one would stand in my way. Especially those idiot Treble Makers.
"I will stop at nothing to take those ding-a-lings down," I spoke definitely as I turned away from our arch enemy's, way beyond over of their gaudy display. They were the last thing my focus should be on. I needed to put all my time into recruiting the perfect members and this activity fair was the best place to make that happen. If I failed to get people interested, it would make this process much harder to gain a great group.
"Hey Barb!" I heard Chloe greet enthusiastically.
I had to refrain from rolling my eyes. I couldn't believe we have stooped this low to now be the ones asking Barb of all people to join when before she used to be one of the many people that had tried to clamber their way into the Barden Bella's. We had rejected her every time because well, she knows...or I should say everyone knows. Like seriously, why can't the girl just wear a bra?
Nonetheless, I couldn't really afford to be selective with our bad reputation.
"You gonna audition this year? We have openings," Chloe added in the same tone as she extended the clipboard out. I knew she was trying to keep the desperation of our situation out, but Barb wasn't an idiot...unfortunately for us.
