❝You're such an idiot.❞
---Hearing a knock on your door, you wake up, a little upset you didn't get to sleep more. You turn your phone on to see what time it is only to be met with a black screen. 'Guess I left my music on...' You stand up, plugging your phone in and adjusting your shirt and hair to look more presentable. You walk over to the door haphazardly; still half asleep.
Opening the door, you're met with the familiar boy. He looks at you, a little shocked. You blush out of embarrassment. You assume you didn't fix your hair as well as you thought you did. "Good morning," he says. He's still staring at you. You notice a few poofs of hair standing up on his head. 'Guess he woke up late too,' you think to yourself. "Good morning," you say a little too energetically, trying to shake your sleepiness off. "Um..." he starts. You keep eye contact with him, encouraging him to continue. He looks down, making it easier to see the red tint underneath his collar.
This makes you blush a little more. Still looking down, he continues.
"Breakfast is starting soon, and I wanted to make sure you didn't wake up late. Sorry if I disturbed you..."
"No, no, it's fine. I appreciate it."
You smile. He really is too sweet. He looks up, and the reddish hue on his face spreads to underneath his eyes.
"I'll be out in a second," you say, tugging at your shirt. "O-oh, yeah," he says, turning the other way. You close the door gently, and start to get dressed for the day. You put a tight shirt on, and a baggy hoodie over it. After all, you never know if you're going to train today or not. You also swap your pants for tighter leggings, and look in the mirror one more time to make sure you hair looks decent. You flatten a few stray pieces and open the door again.
Looking around the corner for Inumaki, he appears next to you. You look at him, and see he also fixed his hair a bit. The two of you walk to the hall and towards a room. You can hear Maki's sharp voice inside.
"Don't touch my toast, you smelly panda!"
"I just wanted a bite! After all, I can't really use the toaster myself..."
"I don't care! Starve to death then!"
You smile at her usual spunk. Walking into the room, Maki goes from storming off from the table to looking at the two of you. She flashes a small smirk at you before continuing to leave the table. Setting her plate on the table, she finishes her food quickly, walks over to a counter, puts the plate down, and then walks out of the room. Panda looks at her solemnly.
"I just wanted some toast..." he mutters to himself. "I can make you some," Inumaki says. He looks at you, then walks over to the pantry. Grabbing some bread, he walks over to the toaster on one of the counters. Panda perks up.
"Thanks bud!"
"No problem."
He puts four pieces into the toaster, and grabs two plates along with some butter and a knife. You smile at how well they get along. You sit down in the seat diagonal to Panda's, and wait for Inumaki to finish so you could start your breakfast.
After a few minutes of waiting, the toast pops and he walks over with the two plates. He sets one next to Panda, to which he smiles at, and one in front of you. You look up at him, surprised.
He sits down next to you, trying to hide the redness on his face. You can understand, your face feels hot too.
Looking down at the food he made you, you realize something.
"What about you?"
"Don't worry, I'm not hungry yet."
You smile. Panda finishes his food and thanks Inumaki again, and you continue to eat your food at a steady pace. Panda stands up and puts his plate away, and Inumaki gets up soon after, probably wanting to be with his friend.
Finishing the toast a few minutes later, you follow the pattern of the other second years: putting your plate away and cleaning up any mess that was made. You wipe down the crumbs that were left on the table, clean the plates, and put them away neatly. Feeling like you've done a good job, you walk back to your room.
Entering the hall again, you take a turn and follow it to your room. You open the door, close it, and then take a seat on your bed. You decide to listen to some music and study ways to improve cursed energy flow. After all, you want to be as prepared as possible for the next mission in this new environment.
You grab your now charged phone, wanting to turn on some music. But before you even get to the app, you see you have a notification. You swipe down, seeing that it was a text from Maki around ten minutes ago.
Opening the text, you read it and respond.

Unfortunately, these short puzzle-like messages take up the majority of your conversations. You wonder what in the world she could have been talking about.
You decide to brush it off and start your research. Grabbing a book on your now finished bookshelf, you read it and write down any important pieces in the notebook in front of you. You want to focus fully on the research, but you can't help but think about what Maki was talking about.
After a few more minutes of research and thinking about the message, you come to a few conclusions. You single then down in your brain, thinking of the most probable one.
One, Panda has a grudge against you for some reason...
...or two, she was teasing you about Inumaki, like Kugisaki was.
You realize number two is the more reasonable choice, and you sigh at the observation. You wish everyone would just leave you alone about it. After all, maybe he's just shy around new people.
Feeling a little frustrated, you continue your research for as long as you can before being interrupted again.
