The chirping of birds woke you up the next morning, soft beams of sunlight peeking through the leaves of the trees. You cracked your eyes open and let out a long yawn.

You realized Akali was no longer there and you frowned a little. Guess she wasn't one for sticking around. You sat up and reached your arms above your head, popping the stiff joints of your shoulders with a curt groan.

"Look at you finally up. I was almost afraid you died." A sarcastic tone teased you from behind.

You whipped around, "Holy- Akali! Don't spook me like that!" You shouted, delivering a light slap to her leg.

She looked down at you with a  smug expression as she crossed her arms. "Sorry, not sorry." She chuckled, stepping around you and directing her attention to the pile of half-burnt logs and charcoal.

"Anyway, can you start the fire up? I'll fetch some rabbit or something to cook." Akali didn't give you much of a choice as she was already walking off, twirling her kunai around her finger.

You half-heartedly rolled your eyes at this, fetching out the flint tucked in the sleeve of your kimono. You scooted over in front of the ash pile, grabbing your blade and getting to work.

Time skip

Akali arrived back with a dead rabbit in her hand, humming to herself. The humming stopped. She looked over at you.

You were sweating furiously, having desperately tried to get the fire started for the past half hour but the flint didn't seem to want to cooperate.

"Kami, how hard is it to start a fire?" Akali groaned, throwing the rabbit next to the ash pit. She retrieved her kunai from the satchel attached to her waist and crouched next to you. She handed it to you.

"Just, flick the blade over the surface." She explained with an impatient tone, making a flicking motion with her wrist.

You looked down at your hands and tried mimicking what she did, a few pathetic sparks appearing.

"You know what? gimme your hand." The ninja sighed. You slowly reached your hand to hers and she grasped it and motioned your other hand over. Her calloused hand guided yours in the same flicking movement, heavier sparks flying out.

Just like that, the fire was burning again

"Thank me later." She snatched her blade out of your hand and grabbed the rabbit, preparing it for cooking.

Even though she was done you were still as stiff as a soldier. You glanced down at the hand the ninja had held, your cheeks going pink.

She... She just held my hand...

Wait why am I blushing!?
