"Seriously Avery, Oliver is NOT boyfriend material. He only has like 3 out of the 10 things on the list," my best friend Bianca huffed.
I rolled my eyes, she's crazy. We made these lists in the sixth grade of what our dream boyfriends would be like, and ever since she has been totally obsessed with getting these guys. We're seniors in high school and she's still intent on finding her dream guy. Every guy we've dated has never lived up to it, which makes sense 'cause the perfect guy doesn't exist. Well atleast in my mind. Even after all the disasters we've been through, she proves to be optimistic. Which is good since I'm a cynic by nature.
"Bianca, when are you gonna give this up?!" I exclaimed, "The perfect guy on all those lists does NOT exist. He never will."
Bianca huffed, "Listen, just because you and We-" She stopped, when she saw the unshed tears beginning to pool in my eyes.
I quickly turned away, and tried to blink away the tears, and the memories of my jerk ex boyfriend. I met him the summer before sophmore year, and I thought he was my perfect match. He had everything on the list, and I couldn't wait to suprise him on the first day of summer which was our anniversary. I should have known something was up when Jesse, his man whore of a brother had pity in his eyes when he answered the door. Jesse never feels bad for anything. When I opened the door to Wes's room, I saw him kissing the school slut; Brooke. She smirked at me. I couldn't believe it. I remember that day like it was yesterday.
*Flashback*
"Babe, seriously, it's not what you think it is," Wes made lame excuses, while trying to push Brooke off of him, but the little whore didn't even budge. She just smirked and continued to sit in the lap of my SUPPOSED boyfriend of a year.
I felt the tears start to fall, and quickly left his room. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of seeing me cry. I was looking down, and walked smack into a wall. Or what I thought was a wall, but it was really Jesse. He looked down at me, with pity, guilt, and something else in his eyes, but I couldn't figure out what it was. I ignored his offered hand and got up on my own.
"Avery I'm so so-" Jesse began
"NO, I don't want to hear it, this is all your fault!" I screamed, needing someone to blame.
I thought I saw Jesse's eyes flashed with hurt, but it passed too fast for me to tell. He quickly moved out of my way, and I ran out of the house.
*Flashback Over*
Bianca's eyes were sad, she knew I would be thinking about that day. I managed a weak smile so she wouldn't know how sad I was.
"Come on," she suggested, "let's go to the mall and cheer you up with some last minute back to school shopping!"
I laughed and shook my head when she started pouting and whining. Finally I gave in and grabbed my keys off the nightstand. I had a feeling this year was gonna change a lot.
When we got to the mall, Bianca immediatly dragged me into Gilly Hicks. I sighed, the only reason she wanted to go was to oogle at the shirtless guys they put out front. Not that I was complaining, but I hate the clothes they sell there! They're all skimpy, seriously if I'm buying a pair of shorts my underwear shouldn't show. grr. When we got there, we went to look around the store.
I was looking through the clothes rack when Bianca dragged me towards a guy that was standing beside a rack filled with booty shorts. "Uhh, Hi mister can we take a picture with you?" Bianca said in her flirtatious voice. He turned around and said, "Avery?"
"I'm sorry, do I know you?" I tried to pretend not to recognize him, but I couldn't believe my eyes.
He gave me a funny look. "You went out with my brother for 2 years Avery, you were at my house everyday!" Jesse exclaimed. His dark brown hair was combed up in a messy spike and his green eyes were sparkling with amusement at my attempt to act like I didn't know him.
"Bianca can you just take your picture, so we can leave?" I said.
"Aren't you going to be in the picture too?" Bianca asked.
"NO!" I said a little too loudly.
Jesse smirked and before I knew it, I was being pulled towards him with big strong arms.
"Jesse, get off me!" I screamed. I looked up at him.
"Babe, you know you want me!" he said with laughter in his voice.
"No, I don't!" I said in a serious tone.
"Umm, I'm waiting to take my picture!" Bianca yelled. She looked at me then at Jesse.
"Okay, I'm coming!" he said. He was still looking at me, with the strangest of expressions. It was hard to read, I kept staring into his nice green eyes.
Finally, I broke away. Jesse unwrapped his arms from around my waist and went to take a picture with Bianca. I avoided eye contact with him and played with my phone until Bianca came over to me.
"Ready to go?" she said.
"Yup!" I popped the "P" and cheerfully walked away.
"Avery!" Jesse said chasing after us. I spun around on my heels.
"What?" I said annoyed. He grabbed my phone from my hand.
"Jesse!" I yelled. I am guessing he was putting his number in.
"Call me sometime!" he smiled.
He is so annoying, just like his stupid brother, Wes. After we broke up, he tried to get back together with me, but I wasn't making that mistake again and I'm certainly not making it with his player older brother.
"Yeah, don't count on it!" I smirked and walked away.
