Talon awoke from his slumber to his mother and father's voice. "I'm worried about Talon, he hasn't earned his name yet. If he doesn't earn it soon he'll be exiled, I don't want to lose another one of my hatchlings." said the voice of Talon's mother. Almost immediately after his mother finished talking he heard the voice of his father. "Do not worry Chiemon, I'm sure Talon will earn his name. Remember, he still has a while before the next Naming Ceremony." "The Ceremony!" Talon thought to himself, the next Naming Ceremony was in about ten years, but ten years is almost no time to earn his true griffin name. Talon immediately got to thinking "I need to find a way to earn my name as soon as possible." Talon stood up from his nest and walked toward his large collection of books. His clawed foot grabbed the book that all young griffins had. He looked at the title and it read "Name Earning for Young Griffins", every griffin was given this book at the age of five. Talon flipped through the pages until he saw the different ways to earn a name. There were several strange ways, one of them was defeating a hydra. Another was to take over a human city for griffin kind. One of the ways caught his eye, it stated that if a griffin were to defeat an enemy of Griffin kind, the griffin whom defeated the enemy would earn their name. After reading this Talon put the book back with a grin, he knew about one enemy of the griffins. The Giant King, he was sending hundreds of giants to take over several different territories, including the griffins. After he put the book back, Talon walked into the main area of the family cave. Once he walked into the main area he saw his parents sitting at the table, they were still talking about the Naming Ceremony. As he walked in his parents stopped talking, "Hello son." his father, Ethel said. "Good morning father" Talon said as he looked at his father's mottled hickory brown and tan colors. He looked towards his mother and her dark grey coloring and said good morning to her as well, after he wished his parents a good morning he walked over to the table. The table was a large slab of stone with some quartz and marble spider webbing throughout it. The chairs were simple raised stone slabs that were placed near the table. On the table was some large pieces of fresh deer, Talon eyed the deer hungrily, he hadn't eaten since the day before. He sat down and waited for his parents to sit down so they could all eat. While they were eating his parents reminded him of his upcoming hatchday, he would turn ten soon. They told him that once he turns ten he will have until the next Naming Ceremony to earn his name. He looked into his father's bright blue eyes and spoke, "Don't worry father, I already have an idea on how to earn my name." His mother looked at him with her forest green eyes and questioned him "How do you intend on earning your name dear?" Talon immediately thought of another way, he knew his parents would not want him to fight the Giant king. After thinking of another way he spoke up "I will take over the nearby human city for the griffins." His parents looked at him approvingly. Talon smiled at them in return, but little did they know, he had other plans on how he could earn his name.
