I just moved into my apartment just as quarantine started. I'm stuck here by myself without any of my friends. It sucks. I miss Shawn. All of a sudden I get a face time call from him.
Shawn: Are you ready for our double date?
Camila: Actually I need to talk to you about that. I'm bailing
Shawn: What??
Shawn: But I already fixed you up with a football player- And you set me up with your new friend. We can't ditch them at the last minute.
Camila: Ha! Watch me.
Shawn sighs
Shawn: Cami I get why you're-, I mean you haven't went one all summer.
Camila: Okay and?
Shawn: That is why we did a double date...our social lives need a little boost.
Camila: Well now that I've had time to think about it. A double date on face time is a terrible solution.
Shawn: Why? We can't go out obviously.
He smiles
Shawn: We know each other better than anyone in this world...and if best friends can't find matches for each other, who can?
I smile wanly...and pray that Shawn doesn't sense the truth: that *he's* my perfect match... and that's why I haven't dated all summer. God, why did I have to go and fall for my best friend?
Shawn flashes me another adorable grin.
Shawn: Just come on this date, Cami. Jarod is a fun guy. You won't regret going out with him.
I sigh. Okay. Maybe if I started dating again...I could move on from this stupid crush on Shawn. Yeah, maybe this will work!
Camila: Alright, I'm in.
Just as I say it...someone else pops up on our group call. It's Sidney, my doe eyed pretty new friend. And a girl I fixed up with Shawn. I pasted on my best double date grin.
Camila: Shawn, meet Sidney.
They smile in greeting. And check each other out. I keep grinning until my face almost breaks. Shawn gets things started.
Shawn: Hey Sidney, Camila said you two met at the beach.
Sidney: Yeah. I really love it there
Shawn: I do, too. I wanted to go to college for marine biology if YouTube didn't work out
Sidney's eyes get dreamy.
Sidney: Wow. You must be really smart.
She's flirting. It's excruciating Shawn is smiling at her politely... So that makes this torture slightly more bearable.
Shawn: Did Camila tell you she's majoring in marine biology?
Shawn and I smile at each other... And, for a moment, it's like the world disappears. But as I tear my gaze away... I know it's all in my head. But then Sidney's smile dims.
Sidney: That was like fireworks
Shawn: What was?
Sidney: That look between you two.
She laughs
Sidney: Maybe you guys should be on this date...ALONE
