We were a well-to-do family living in a large mansion on top of a hill. I was studying in a Highschool situated close to our neighborhood. My sister was 6 years of age and was homeschooled. My dad was working in a nearby company and had a high paid salary. My mom was excellent at cooking, her recipies were just scrumptious!

Our lives were thriving with no monetary problems and lived happily in our mansion. But this luxurious life came to a sudden end due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, when my dad lost his job as the company sales had dropped a lot and they could not afford to pay his salary. He had tried to negotiate and lower his salary, but nothing came in favour for him.

Going through financial problems, our family decided to put up our mansion for sale and rent a house in a silent and gloomy neighborhood, away from all the luxury and money. The sudden change from a life of luxury to a struggling life was a hard one.

The house we lived in was not remotely close to our mansion, but it was enough for our family. In front of the house was a pathway that connected to the stone-pitched road which remained quiet almost the entire day, with only 2 or 3 cars passing at a time.

There was a garden right beside our garage with an old, crooked tree. The tree had no leaves, had broken twigs and gave off a weird, creepy and melancholic feeling. Just by looking at the tree gave me the creeps.

The house was a two storeyed bungalow, the design was pretty vintage, with wooden doors, wooden walls and creaky wooden floors. There was a large living room with sofas facing a fireplace. I used to sit by the fireplace and do my schoolwork and read hundreds of stories and novels.

There was a basement under our house where we used to keep some furniture, or generally just extra stuff we couldn't fit properly in the house. I hardly went there as the fright from watching horror movie 'The Conjuring' was still prevalent. That place gave me the creeps, sometimes it almost felt like the basement was trying to call me, lure me in to reveal what darkness lied within.
