My heart ached, there was this hollowness inside me, it was consuming my thoughts. My wolf, well she was irritable, I could feel her frustration at the decision that was enforced on us. My wolf was not someone to be intimidated, she was an entity of her own. She was extremely independent and even though she had a predestined mate, she didn't care for him. For she was filled with pride and didn't believe he was worthy of her. She was extremely loyal to the moon goddess and felt that she had been greatly sinned to be given someone so unworthy of her. I couldn't help but agree.
Thomas wasn't someone who I would have chosen for us. He was extremely arrogant and he didn't take responsibility for his mistakes. Even in front of his pack, he was making excuses for his decision making. He didn't own up to his mistakes, he simply blamed by upbringing for his poor reasoning. All I could do was hate him more, so far there was nothing redeemable.
I tossed and turned each night, the sweat that clung to my body added more discomfort and restlessness to my sleep. By the time the morning sunlight started sealing through the window, my heart started to pound. My stomach was growling and scratching, tormented me with sickness. My anxiety was clawing through me as I knew that I would have to contact Seth and tell him I was disappearing for a month.
I groaned as I covered my eyes with my forearm. Uncle James didn't know what to say when he returned from the pack hall. He was silent but I could see he was stewing behind his eyes. He was in pain and he was angry. I just couldn't work out where he was directing it. He was extremely silent and he seemed to be ignoring Clare.
Clare on the other hand was nothing but comforting, I could tell she understood my pain and my sadness. She didn't have to tell me much about my story but the way she reacted I could tell that her mate had hurt her in rejecting her wolf. Whether she was in the same predicament as me and was rejected because of her status; all I could do was think about what a fool he was to reject someone as kind hearted as Clare.
My thoughts were interrupted by the vibration of my phone. Even if it was early, I was awake and ready to face my inevitable fate. I swiped the answer call and brought the device to my ear.
"Hello." I grumbled out with a sigh.
"Well Good morning sunshine." A deep voice chuckled out. The tone was smooth and warm, hearing his voice was like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It was so comforting.
"Seth." I sighed with relief. I could feel the corners of my mouth turn upwards.
"How are you doing? How's your Grandmother doing?" The worry in his tone was evident. I couldn't help but feel this sinking feeling in my stomach. I couldn't help but feel guilty for lying about my whereabouts.
"She's.." I hesitated and could feel my fist clench. I couldn't help the squint of my eyes as I clenched them tightly, thinking about how much I hated the council for putting me in this predicament. "She's getting there, she's still unwell. I think I will be staying here a bit longer than anticipated."
"Oh darling I am sorry for hearing that. I know how much she means to you. It's been a while since you last visited her, I'm sure she appreciates you being with her now." Seth earnestly responds.
"Yeah my family are happy about me being back for some time." I say with a tight smile.
"Do you want me to come out and visit you? I can always book myself into a local hotel and stay with you? I can even have the best specialist in her hospital making sure she is well. My parents made the suggestion last night." Seth replies.
"Oh I couldn't trouble you for that. My grandmother would never forgive me if I made more trouble for her." I lied. "If we need anything I promise to let you know. I think I will be staying here for at least a month. I didn't realise how much I missed my family and I have a few things I have to tie up before I leave. Maybe you could fly out at the end of the month? It will give you time to tie up any loose ends with work before you take some leave?"
