"Would you look at that? It's so cute!" My mom squeals.
Hindi ko pinansin ang white persian cat na dala niya at patuloy lang akong naglakad pabalik sa kitchen.
"Catty! Come here, i-welcome mo naman ang new pet mo." She's really this excited?
"I'm doing something Mom. Nagugutom na 'ko." Sagot ko habang patuloy sa pagluluto.
"What should we name it?" She asks.
"What? Kailangan pa ba noon? Hindi ba pwedeng 'Cat' nalang." Reklamo ko.
"Oh silly you, that would be weird. 'Cat' is your nickname and it's a girl's name." She said.
"It's a boy?" I asks.
"Yup!" She answered.
Patuloy pa rin ang pagpet niya sa pusa sa living room habang ako ay abala sa pagprepare ng dinner sa dinning area. Nang ilapag ko na ang ulam na niluto ko ay tinawag ko na si Mommy upang sabayan na niya akong kumain.
"This is so good! New recipe?" She asks as she put some more food on her plate.
"No." I answered.
"This is not in your menu sa Sally's ah? You should let your boss taste this." She was talking about the restaurant where I work.. before.
Hindi ako kumibo.
"How's work?" She asks.
Oh well this is it.
"I got fired." Kalmado kong sagot.
Nahulog bigla ang kubyertos na hawak niya sa pinggan at ang lakas ng tunog nito.
"What?" Naguguluhan niyang tanong sa akin.
Tinignan ko na lamang siya at yumuko nang onti dahil hindi ko na alam kung anong sasabihin ko. Magpapaliwanag muna ba 'ko kung anong nangyari? Sasabihin ko ba na maghahanap na lang ako ng bagong trabaho? Anyway I didn't like it there. Kahit na malaki ang pasahod.
"Poor performances. Mr. Carter said." I can't form a full sentence.
"Well what happened dear? Is everything alright?" She asks.
"Yes mom." Simple kong sagot.
"I can talk to him! Pwede ko naman siyang pakiusapan na ibalik ka sa restaurant and—"
"Mom. You don't have to do that." I cut her off.
"But this is your dream—"
"Yes Mom this is my dream job. That's why I want to climb my way up there. Hindi mo na kailangan pang makiusap. And besides it's not like dream restaurant ko din 'yon." Paliwanag ko.
I know she still has a lot to say but I assured her.
"Mom please. You don't have to worry about me."
