Humanity has grown smaller over the passing time. Today was different, the once lifeless eyes everyone seemed to bear were now shimmering, with hope. Mankind watched with baited breathe as 15 people stepped ontop of a platform, behind them, their, humanity's, ticket to possible freedom. Now, how did the humans find themselves in need of a ticket?
Years ago humanity finally achieved world peace, but it was too far gone, Earth over the past decades had become near uninhabitable. With the nature of this event, all of mankind was forced underground.
Yet, how has humanity managed to send people on a mission through space under these conditions? Simple. A discovery was made.
When mankind was first driven underground scientists discovered meteorites that contained what is now known as kelonite. This was the humans first step to saving their race. Over countless years of testing and now is the end result, a culmination of blood, sweat, tears, and hope. Hope for another discovery out among the stars, a planet suitable for them.
That is where the crew hope to be heading, another world beyond the wasteland rock they once called Earth. The new era of humanity starts here. Far ago was the downfall now is the uprising of hope and dreams. Only time will tell if mankind was right in their beliefs.
The crew looked across the cavern they call home, smiling the brightest smiles you could ever imagine. It wasn't an everyday opportunity to travel space. One member of the crew stepped out, seemingly grinning wider than the rest of the crew. The man wore a dark blue suit, it seemed to twinkle and shine, more than likely due to the kelonite that was fused with the suit.
The man raised his hands and all of Humanity was silenced, waiting to cling onto every word this man will say. It was as obvious as it was to even a new born child that this moment required a speech filled with the hopes and dreams of mankind and the possibility that they will be saved.
No words came, for what felt like an eternity for mankind was only minutes on the clock. It could be mistaken as stage fright, and who wouldn't have stage fright, you had to say the right words to give hope to all of mankind. Even the rest of the crew started to worry for their captain one was even going to comfort the man until he finally breathed in and spoke.
"No words can describe this remarkable quest we few have agreed on taking. It will be dangerous and hard to go through." The man paused recollecting his thoughts, "with all honesty I can't say much, I for one feel I should not have been picked to do this speech, but the straws have been drawn and now here I am!" The man exclaimed spreading his arms wide, "Here I am supposed to give a speech about hope and dreams, well here is what I have to say. We will find mankind a new home, one where we can see light once more. We. Will. Not. Fail. You." The man uttered the last words before turning and walking towards the shuttle. He didn't expect applause for what he said, he just kept walking, his crew slowing trailing behind him.
A sound could be heard, a small sound, it grew louder. The captain turned around along with the rest of the crew. Applause could be heard from every corner of the cavern. Screaming, hollering, and whistles were heard throughout said cavern. The captain and his crew could only smile. They continued the trek into the shuttle and with that, their adventure begins.
Unfortunately this also meant the beginning of their possible end.
