Backstory Shaine James was a Pogue who lives on 'The Cut' side of Outer-banks with her family. Her mother, Sheila is a housewife and pretty much a carer for her husband and Shaine's father, David. David is an abusive, alcoholic with anger issues so you can guess what life is like for Shaine and her family. She also has a brother Nathan. They barely acknowledge each other's existence anymore. They used to be really close growing up but they grew apart as they both got older. Shaine is best friends with the other Pogues John B, JJ, Pope and Kiara. She's also friends with a Kook, Sarah Cameron. Her friends don't know because well she's a Kook. The Kooks and Pogues are both completely opposite groups of people and they don't see eye to eye. The Kooks were the people from the rich side of the island, Figure 8. Sarah and Shaine met at a bonfire party which Sarah spilled a drink all down her dress so Shaine gave her her jacket to hide the stains. They both hit it off and became really good friends. Who would have thought a Pogue and a Kook would have so much in common. Summertime is approaching and Shaine decided she needs to get a job during the summer in order to pay for her dream college. Sarah's father, Ward Cameron was looking for someone to tutor Wheezie Cameron, Sarah's little sister. Sarah helped her get the job. Shaine starts to get involved with the Cameron family. Well, just the one member more than the other...
