Emi followed Bruce and Sophie out the door. The nice woman named Edaline- that was a pretty name- had left already.

"Um... hello?" Emi said it like a question, because she was nervous.

"I'm Keefe," Bruce said. "Nice to meet you." Wait- Keefe- Bruce- huh?

Emi frowned at Bruce/Keefe. "What?"

He looked at Sophie. She folded her arms defensively. Emi stood there, confused.

"My real name is Keefe," he finally said.

Emi nodded slowly. "Okayyy..."

"So, Emi, have you ever felt... how do I say this... um... different?" Sophie asked her.

She raised her eyebrows at Sophie, slightly offended. But she was used to it. "Uhm... yeah? I'm kind of an orphan?"

Sophie reeled. "That's not exactly what I meant. And you might not be one. What I meant-" Keefe butt in then. "What she means is, like, have you been able to control water?"

Emi stared at him blankly.

"Read minds?"

Emi shook her head, confused.

"You're worse than Fitz was!" Sophie folded her arms at him. Fitz? Emi wondered, but did not ask aloud.

Keefe ignored her and continued naming Elvin abilities.

"Feel others emotions? Vanish into thin air? Create shields around things?"

At that, Emi flinched.

"YOU'RE A PSIONIPATH!" Keefe shouted. Huh?

Emi covered her ears and a translucent shield popped up around her. The same translucent sphere that had protected her from bullies since she was five years old.

Sophie glared at Keefe as he gave her a smug grin. "See?"

"I'm sorry, Emi. Keefe's a bit of a knucklehead. Actually, more than just a bit."

Keefe's smile turned into a scowl. "What did I ever do to you?" When he spoke, he sounded different, somehow.

"Seriously?!" Sophie's voice changed too. As if... kind of like they were speaking in a different language- but then how could Emi understand it?

"YOU LEFT ME! YOU LEFT EVERYONE! YOU WERE SO SELFISH! YOU LEFT FOR THREE MONTHS AND DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THE REST OF-"

"Sophie." Keefe interrupted. "I think... I think Emi's a polyglot too."

At that, the tips of Sophie's ears turned bright red.

"Sorry," she mumbled to Emi. Emi smiled slightly. She had no idea what a "polyglot" nor a "psionipath" was.

Sophie pulled out a bracelet and clamped it on Emi's wrist. "Uh... thank you?" she said hesitantly.

"Emi- there's no easy way to tell you this, but you're not human. Or an alien, don't get that mixed up. You're an elf. And your parents are probably actually alive. And you have powers- you can speak in any language, and you can create shields. And probably more stuff, too. And yeah you can pelt me with questions or insults or whatever I know I'm really bad at this sorry but um yeah also we need to light leap to my home so grab on to my hand."

Emi rubbed her forehead. That was a lot to process. "Okay." she simply said. Her head hurt too much to say more than that.

She took Sophie's hand, and there was a flash of light.

"Emi, welcome to the Lost Cities!" Keefe declared.
