The cracking walls make me nervous, as they would anyone.

When my vine grabs the support beam, I feel a small wave of relief wash over me.

The sensation quickly dissipates when the beam comes loose and falls towards me. I manage to dodge it, but I can no longer get out through the main exit.

The building was already unstable. Sending Sato and Momo up using this beam, after we already used it to support our weight multiple times, must have caused too much strain.

I run towards the hole in the ceiling, the only other exit from the basement. Before I even stop, I send my vines up towards the hole. A few other pieces fall, making a wider exit. Cracks continue to form on the ceiling, reminding me of how little time I have left.

I smile when my vines grip something on the upper level. I'm even more relieved when the item proves to be stable enough to lift my weight. I start pulling myself up, my anxiety slowly dying away the closer I get to the light shining through the opening.

But of course, nothing likes to go my way.

The building destabilizes more. I can barely hear the frantic yelling of my teacher over my own screams. I fall to the ground, landing awkwardly. I twist my ankle, causing me to fall over. My bruised arm supports my weight, but no matter how hard I try I can't stand back up.

Debris falls all around me. I crawl to sit underneath a mostly intact piece of the ceiling, leaning on another piece to create a sort of shelter.

I sit underneath and cry.

Sometimes that's all you can do.

So I do. I cry and pray to whatever deity is out there that the heroes save me. I beg to get out of this situation alive and return home.

I just want to be back in the dorms, eating dinner with my class.

Telling jokes. Sharing stories.

Maybe playing video games with Sero and Kaminari.

Or baking with Sato and Momo.

How about watching the top cutest animals with Koda?

Dancing with Jiro and Tokoyami?

Anything, other than being here.

I watch as falling debris blocks my exit. Another crash indicates the ceiling collapsing completely.

I really am trapped.

I feel myself gradually get light-headed as I run out of oxygen.

I try to steady my breathing, but I can't seem to calm down.

Soon, my vision blurs.

My world goes dark.

...

"Wake up, darling,"

The first thing I hear is an unfamiliar voice. It speaks in an unfamiliar tone, one that sounds both crazy and loving.

The next thing I notice is the warm hand stroking my cheek. It's comforting in a way, though not knowing who it is makes me nervous.

Slowly, I gather the strength to open my eyes. At first, everything is blurry, all I can make out is a figure in front of me.

As my vision clears, the features become visible.

Before me stands a boy I barely recognize. He has messy, forest green hair, and freckles. Nothing about him indicates his quirk, making him seem a little plain compared to most.

Except for his eyes.

Those emerald eyes.

I remember those...

...

I had heard about a new hobby shop in the area and decided to go for the grand opening.

I took a bus to the location and figured I'd take the bus back to UA as well. When I got there the place was pretty crowded, but not overwhelming so I stayed for a while. I bought a few mangas, played some games that were set up, and just had a great time.

Once the festivities were over, I walked out to the streets. The sun was already setting so I rushed to the bus stop.

And, in typical anime fashion, I just missed the last bus.

My first instinct was to try and call someone, but I apparently forgot to charge my phone before leaving. Having no other options, I started walking back to the dorms. Since I had never been to that part of town, I got lost quickly.

The sun had set completely, bathing the streets in darkness. My anxiety grew until it was hard to think straight. Every little sound made me jump or flinch.

Finally, after what felt like hours of walking, I saw a light out of the corner of my vision. I breathed a sigh of relief once I saw that it was a convenience store.

I walked through the dark alley, still flinching at every sound. You'd think, being so alert, that I would hear the man following me.

I didn't.

He appeared from the shadows with a gun pointed right at my head. He demanded money, but I didn't have any left. I had spent all the money I brought to the store, all I had in my purse was my phone and a bus pass.

He didn't believe me, he made that clear. I insisted that I was telling the truth, but it just made him angrier.

I watched in fear as he slowly squeezed the trigger. I squeezed my eyes close, preparing for the worst.

The gunshot rang out, I screamed, but I didn't feel anything.

No pain, no blood, nothing.

But I certainly wasn't dead.

I opened my (e/c) orbs, and emerald eyes stared back at me. I stared in wonder as they seemed to glow in the dark. I thanked him for saving me, and he replied.

"No problem, (y/n)."

I began to panic, but before I could scream he hit my neck and I passed out.

When I woke up, I was in my dorm. I thought it was all a dream.

Until I saw my bag of manga on the floor,

And a blooming rose on my end table.
