12 - Extraction

I moved to another window and looked at the concentration of officers who were checking the citizens' documents. I grasped my rifle and kept my gaze on them, ready to shoot after Rake.

Tyler shot a police car, making a few men jump away. I immediately started shooting after him, killing the ones who were looking for the person shooting. Saju and Ovi drove away just moments later. Rake shot another police car with the launcher and I continued with my rifle.

They had found our spot. We crouched down with one hand covering our heads as broken glass started flying around the area. "Fucking hell.", I commented, loading my rifle.

"Cover me.", I said loudly and started aiming at the cars around Saju's. I continued shooting until they were out of sight.

"Jane on your left.", he yelled. I glanced to my left side and moved there slowly, before I started shooting again. Military forces had joined the police as they were approaching the building, while shooting at us.

"Oh, shit.", I heard Tyler mutter under his breath and suddenly we were both on the ground with his body covering mine.

"A bazooka. What the actual fuck.", he muttered and hissed as he leant on a piece of glass. My eyes widened as I caught glimpse of shadows slowly coming up the stairs. I grabbed Tyler's gun from his back pocket and shot the two officers coming our way.

I pushed Rake off me and quickly stood up, with his gun in my grip. I rapidly threw him mine and slowly moved towards the door leading downstairs.

"Heading to the bridge. Copy.", it was Nik.

"Best of luck.", I said and clicked on the satellite phone.

"Rake you alright, man?", I glanced at him and saw him standing in my same position. He simply winked at me and slowly moved forward. He made his way downstairs after he switched the gun with his rifle.

We were rapidly out of the building and immediately started shooting at the men coming our way. I grabbed my launcher and aimed at a car where officers were standing nearby. The smoke coming from the car in fire gave us some sort of advantage as we were able to shoot the bastards without being noticed.

I moved behind a car as bullets barely missed me. I glanced at Tyler and then at the officers in the front. I kept shooting from my spot. I moved behind another car with Rake doing the same.

"Load it.", I checked for ammunition and then handed my rifle to Tyler, before grabbing his and shot two officers who were coming our way.

"Rake! I need you on the bridge!", Saju shouted in his device. Tyler looked at me, making me nod. "Yeah, on my way."

He passed me my loaded rifle and as I was about to move from my spot and shoot, a military vehicle was slowly approaching us.

"Oh, sh—", I jumped back behind the car and forcefully grabbed Tyler's vest pulling him behind a fruit stand. There were numerous stands, all under a closed roof. They don't really do that in Oz.

We hid behind a random stand breathing out heavily. Rake reached for his grenade from his vest and then quietly waited with me. "I want you to move to the other side. They get in, I throw this and you start firing. Clear?", I nodded and patted his arm, before I stood up. I lowly moved to the opposite side of the closed market and waited for the smoke.

I heard metal roll, signalling Tyler had thrown it. It exploded a second later, making me grasp my rifle. Men groaned in pain as I had suddenly come out from my hiding spot and started shooting. Tyler sent a kick to one of them on the chest, sending him against another veggie stand.
