The Marquis de La Fayette had finally made it to the Americas, after getting caught and arrested way too many times for any normal person. He had talked with Congress on multiple occasions and they finally let him into the Continental Army. He told them he would fight for free, considering he already has more than enough money and honestly didn't need more. Gilbert has heard many rumors about this soulmate thing and when you meet them, you get to see colors. He doesn't really believe he'll get to see colors anytime soon, but one can dream. He came with a buddy, the Baron de Kalb, and he helped and supported Gilbert along the trip.

He had stayed in a room at a tavern that he had rented for the night, because it was already late when he arrived. He started doing his nightly routine when he felt something tickle his arm. Gilbert didn't think much of it. Until it suddenly stopped, and started again. He eventually looked down, but not without the shock of his life. "PUTAIN DE MERDE!" He screamed. There was writing on his arm in a sloppy but neat handwriting. Far from his, surely. It had looked familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it. Like he had seen it somewhere, maybe as a signature. He quickly tried to wash it off with what he had, but to no avail.

He had gotten ready for bed, still upset about how he couldn't wash off the writing. But then he though back to a letter his past friend had sent him:

"Gilbert,

I have gotten news of a new system, one that may make it much easier to find our one love. You may eventually see a writing on your arm, and you can respond. That is your soulmate speaking. You cannot erase the words unless you have talked to them at least once. Once you have spoken, you may erase it. You know if you get close to them, you will be able to see color. It may take a while to adjust and learn, but it is so very worth it, dear friend. I have found her, and I love her dearly. You will find them and love them unconditionally.

Your most trusted friend,

Maurice"

Gilbert sighed. Had his soulmate been trying to contact him this whole time, and he has just been ignoring them? He finally decided to read what they had wrote. It was hard in the dim candlelight, but he managed. It had said:

"Hello, it is your soulmate speaking. Or writing, since I'm not physically speaking. But I had took some time to try and get to know you."

Gilbert was shocked. Who even were they? He had decided to write back, thinking it would be rude not to.

"Yes, hello mysterious person. I am genuinely surprised that this had worked, but I am happy that it did. I am going to be leaving early in the morning, so I cant write for too long. I hope you can understand"

Gilbert didnt expect a response back until tomorrow morning, but he was surprised when he felt that same tickling feeling on his arm.

"I completely understand, as I have business to attend to tomorrow as well. I hope you have a wonderful night,-"

And then it stopped. He guessed it was because they didn't know his name, so he told them.

"I have a long name, but please, call me Gilbert " He wrote back.
