The Great Hall looked amazing as usual. It was decorated for the beginning. The plates on the table were golden and matched the goblets. I was walking with George talking to him about how we thought the first years were going to be sorted. Fred seemed a little out of it and I didn't really want to bother him.
It was warm in the Great Hall and I couldn't help but smile as I took my seat and the twins sat on either side of me. Sir Nicholas came up to the table moving right into it after talking to Harry, "Good evening, Finley, did you enjoy break?"
"Yes I did, a break is always nice, how have things been here over summer?" I played with the fork in front of me.
"Oh horrid," he said sounding agitated, "Peeves hasn't stopping being horrid all break. Nothing but dropping balloons and making messes, poor Proffessor McGonagall had to come here to sort a huge mess in the fourth floor West Wing, he has been an arse."
I had never heard Sir Nick talk like this so I couldn't help but giggle a little at his agitation towards Peeve's, "Fred, George and I will sort him out this year. Don't you worry!"
I chatted with him for a bit longer talking to Fred and George also until the doors to the Great Hall opened and Professor McGonagall was leading a huge herd of first years to the front of the hall. The rain must have been horrid as they all looked as if they had swam in the like. They were all shivering, either they were cold or horrible nervous.
Soon enough the hat was placed upon the three legged stool and was singing to everyone in the Great Hall about Hogwarts and sorting. It was long and boring listening to all of these kids being sorted into their houses. I would clap any time someone was sorted into Gryffindor.
Dumbledore began his beginning of year speech talking of all the forbidden items that were no longer allowed into Hogwarts due to Filch. He reminded us that we weren't allowed to go to the forbidden forest.
"It is also my painful duty to inform you that the Inter-House Quidditch Cup will not take place this year."
Everyone's mouth's dropped including my own. Was this the secret? Had they cancelled Quidditch at Hogwarts due to the events at the World Cup? I knew that it was an idiotic thought but there was always that 1% possibility. Hell, anything was possible with this.
Fred and George's mouths were hanging wide open in amazement. Not the good amazement either. They were upset,"How could they be cancelling Quidditch?" George had leaned into me and asked me quietly and I just shook my head, because I didn't know.
Dumbledore soon began speaking again, "This is due to an event that will be starting in October, and continuing throghout the school year, taking up much of the teachers' time and energy — but I am sure you will all enjoy it immensely. I have great pleasure announcing that this year at Hogwarts-"
The doors of the Great Hall flew open, and a man was standing in the door way leaning on a stafft, he was wearing a black traveling cloak. Everyone turned to look at him confused.
There was a dull clunking noise on every other step he took, he reached the end of the table and turned to walk towards Dumbledore.
"Might I introduce our nedw Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?" said Dumbledore through the silence, "Professor Moody!"
It wasn't normal for a teacher to be introduced and for there to be silence afterwards. I looked around the table and saw Harry whispering to Ron quietly. I watched as Hermione joined in on the conversation.
"As I was saying," Dumbledore said soon after clearing his throat, " we are to have the honor of hosting a very exciting event over the coming months, an event that has not been held for over a century. It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year."
"You're JOKING!" screamed Fred loudly.
The tention that was building in the hall suddenly broke and I'm sure there wasn't a person in the great hall that wasn't laughing.
"I am not joking, Mr. Weasley," he said, "Though now that you mention it, I did hear an excellent one over the summer about a troll, a hag, and a leprechaun who all go into a bar. . . "
Professor McGonagall cleared her through as if to tell Dumbledore to stop talking.
"Eh, anyways, where was I? Ah yes, the Triwizard Tournament . . . well, some of you will not know what this tournament involves, so I hope that those who do will forgive me for this short explanation.
I couldn't help but let my mind wander until he began to speak of when the champions would begin the challenges. An Impartial judge will decide who is most worthy to compete.
". . . The glory of their school, and a thousand Galleons personal prize money,"
"I'm going for it!" Fred hissed loudly looking more excited than I had ever seen him.
The look on Fred's face was extremely angry when we were told that anyone under the age of 17 wouldn't be allowed to enter the tournament. Listening to them arguing was getting on my nerves.
"Would you two shut it?" I asked as we made our way to the common room.
"Why are you complaining? You would want to enter if you were 17 too!"
"No, Fred, I would not. I find no enjoyment in putting myself in danger with the small chance of making a thousand galleons and eternal glory." I rolled my eyes and scoffed at how stupid this all was, "People have died Fred." I looked at him and he just shrugged at me.
I continued walking until we finally made it to the common room, "Password Please?"
Shit.
Fred walked up behind me and stood there for a moment before muttering, "Balderdash."
The door opened allowing us in and I just looked down at my feet as I walked into the dorm.
I said goodnight to everyone before walking upstairs too tired to function. I wanted to sleep until midday tomorrow. Bless Dumbledore for giving us at least one day before we started classes.
I slept peacefully throughout the night until the Tri-Wizard tournament entered my mind. I saw flashes of different horrible things throughout the night, sleeping the worst that I had in a long time.
