The morning of my eleventh birthday was monumentous. My mother had been up for hours before I was even awake making my birthday breakfast. She had been talking about this for months. She couldn't believe I was turning eleven and would be going to a wizarding school in September. She and Dad talked about nothing but that for the longest time. Actually, she would talk about it and Dad would just sit there and listen. The only thing going through my mind was the worry of whether or not my magic skills would be as good as the other students. What if I couldn't even do magic? Would my parents hate me?

These thoughts stopped as my mother, who was sitting by the window, noticed I had come down the stairs, "Good morning Starshine, the Earth says hello!"

"Good morning mum," I said softly giving her a small wave as I took my seat at the table.

My Father looked up from his newspaper with his grey eyes that matched mine perfectly and nodded slightly in my direction as if to say, "Good morning." I took this gesture gratefully because usually he would just look at me then look back down to his paper.

My Mother made her way over to me and wrapped her arms around me lovingly and kissed my forehead, "Happy Birthday Fin!"

"Thanks mum, " I said quietly and pulled away from the bone crushing hug.

When I looked at the table she had an assortment of my favourite breakfast foods on the table. She handed me a plate which I put pancakes, sausage, and eggs onto. I grabbed the maple syrup and took it to the table with me so I could sit down and eat. My Mother then returned to her position by the open window watching the sky as she waited for one of the ministry owls to bring the letter from the school that I would be attending. My mothers only hope was for me to go to Beauxbatons and be just like her. A popular, blonde, French girl. Newsflash mother, my hair is brown and curly, I have a northern accent, and I am not going to be popular.

My Father could probably sense that I was getting more worried about this whole letter thing. He finally set his newspaper down and looked at me, "So, Fin, are you excited?"

I only nodded after taking a bite of egg. My mind was running a million miles a minute trying to figure out how my Mum would react if I didn't get accepted to Beauxbatons. For Christ's sake, she had actually talked to the ministry about getting me into this school.

"Well," he said softly looking down for a moment, " what school do you think you will be going to?" He leaned forward as if he was extremely interested in what I had to say.

I shrugged a bit, "I don't care as long as I get my education and become a good witch."

He laughed a bit even though I did not find this funny whatsoever, "You will be an amazing witch my darling!"

"I hope so."

My mother gasped and stood up quickly, "OH, my god!" She stood and looked over at me with a bright smile on her face. Here it was, The moment of truth.

A large white owl swooped in and perched right in front of me on the breakfast table as it had done a million times before. I looked over at my mother and she gave me a look as if to tell me to open up the letter. My hand was shaking horribly as I slowly began to open up the letter. I already knew from the letter seal that I wouldn't be going to Beauxbatons. I opened it and began to read:

"Dear Finley Farley

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. . ."

As I continued to read I could see my mothers face was dropping into a frusterated looking frown. I bit my lip and watched my father. He had only a little emotion on his face and he looked a bit happier than I had ever seen.

"Wow!" my mother said in an obviously fake happy voice, "You get to go to hogwarts!" She smiled over at my father, "Isn't that amazing!? Here, I am going to go get your presents!"

When she dissapeared my Father looked at me, "Listen, Fin, your mother had a lot of dreams for you."

I nodded, "She wanted me to go to Beauxbatons and be just like her." I bit my thumb thoughtfully, " I'm not going to be just like her and I cannot help that." I looked down, "I'm going to do something so different than what she wants."

Dad nodded, "I know Finley, you are going to do something so amazing and your mother will accept that."

My mother soon came back downstairs and my father fell silent, as usual.

My mother was smiling brightly as she handed me a box wrapped in purpe paper. She gave me a smile and said, "Go on Fin."

I tore the paper open carefully and looked through the box of various things. The largest Item in the box was a gorgeous dress that looked about 3 sizes too large for me at the time.

"It was mine," she said softly, "you probably cannot wear it right now, but it is there when you need it."

I gave her a small smile before whispering a small, "Thank you."

She nodded before handing me another much smaller box. Inside the small box was filled with about 30 galleons, "Wow, thank you!" I said softly with a grin.

" It's to help with school stuff ."

I smiled and looked over to Dad who spoke softly, "The last week of August we will take you to get your school things and stay at the leaky cauldron."

My mother nodded and grinned to my father. I think she was starting to be okay with the thought of me going to Hogwarts.

After breakfast I went to sit on the sand right by the beach. I though for a bit about why my mother thought Beauxbatons was so amazing. The headmistress was such a jerk and no one actually liked her. It was also obvious that I wouldn't fit in with the other girls there either.

My thoughts were interrupted when my mother sat right next to me, "I'm sorry," she said, "I just wanted you to be like me, and grow up to be the young lady you are supposed to be."

The young lady I was supposed to be? She must have meant to say I was supposed to grow up to be just like her, but she would never admit that. Not ever.
