Content warning: Alcohol + Smoking, Squid Game (mentioned)
****
The next day, I met the gang at the same spot to have my sip of alcohol. It started with the gang leader pouring our cups and serving them. He then suggested, "I brought my school iPad today! What do you want to watch? It's all on Netflix!""Squid Game! Squid Game!" Everyone screamed.
"Come on, don't be so boring. We watched that last week. Any other titles? Got to be violent and fun!"
"I know!" I screamed passionately. "Demon Slayer! Its good enough for us bloodthirsty kids!"
"Lyna, love the passion!" He chose the anime and adjusted the screen for all of us to see the movie. We all gathered together, ready to binge on 2 hours worth of Demon Slayer. Every time we got to the ending Homura, the gang leader would pass around 7 cigarettes for us to smoke on. After taking our puff before the chorus, we would take out the cigarette and wave it around during the chorus, singing through the empty alley. As I was one of the newest members, I had my puff the last.
When it came to the fifth incarnation of Homura, my cigarette was given to me. Taking it happily, I watched how the others smoked and followed suit. When I breathed out, smoke came out.
The alley soon became my school, my home. Eventually, I decided to pack up and stay with them forever. With my supplies, I now sleep with the gang leader downstairs. We went to the same school but different levels, so we slept at the basement at night and walked to school in the morning. I never did my homework from that point.
After a month, the gang leader told us, "Watching movies with cigarettes and alcohol? So boring! We need some action as true members of Butterfly Society! Who would like some internship as a gang member?"
What internship? I never got one as a TikTok influencer. Knowing that I did need some exposure to real life, I enthusiastically agreed.
"Awesome, Lyna! Let's go to J8 tomorrow! I'll teach you some good skills!" The gang leader cheered feistily. I nodded enthusiastically, knowing that I finally have a "life."
