-Lyna's POV-
I opened the door.No one was there.
All of a sudden, I heard a familiar voice scream, "LYNAAA! It's been so long!" Turning around, I realise it was Dylan. He has gotten taller, shaved off his head but keeps his slender figure still.
"DYLANNNNN!" I screamed back, and we got into a tight embrace. After what seemed to be an eternity, we managed to separate from each other and turned on the lights. Sitting on the mattress, we managed to talk about our future plans.
Dylan was going to take on a job until his National Service (NS) ends. After that, he would go to polytechnic and then go out into the working world. Although he did decent on his O Levels, he got out of prison a year late and felt it wasn't worth it going to college or polytechnic.
As for me, I was going back to my old school prior to my sentence and prepare for the O levels. After that, I would go to a special school just for dance and then polytechnic before I pursue dance as a career. Should I pursue professional dance or become a coach?
Nevertheless, my teenage years made me realise that dance was the journey I wanted to walk.
Dylan told me that he was going to stay in the basement but revamp it for new purposes. Although his record would make it difficult to get a job, it wasn't impossible. He wanted it to become a proper home for himself.
After much consideration, I stood up firmly and confessed boldly, "Dylan, even though we only met for so long, I've developed feelings for you! Can we start dating?"
I was expecting a rejection but Dylan smiled warmly and confessed back, "Same here, Lyna. Why don't we go to your house and meet your parents?"
"Sure!" I brought Dylan to the other side of the street.
-Dylan's POV-
My heart was racing. I didn't know why. Was it due to the presence of Lyna? Or was it the thrill of experiencing romance for the first time? Either way, I dashed forward without a care. When we got to Lyna's house, I freaked out. A landed property? Prior to my parents' divorce, I only stayed in an apartment. A small one. Lyna led me and waved to her parents, which led to a tearful reunion.
After said tearful reunion, I made my way introduce myself to Lyna's parents. To my greater surprise, Lyna's parents didn't mind me at all, and lead me to the dining table. In front of me was stir-fried beef, fried bell peppers and four cups on Mr Coconut. "These are all Lyna's favourite foods," Lyna's dad revealed. "Eat up, we spent hours preparing the meal."
Lyna and I dug in. I found Lyna's choice of food interesting. It turns out Lyna always loved beef, but they didn't have the luxury to get Hamburg steak, they settled with stir-fried beef.
After dinner, Lyna led me to the backyard and kneeled on the ground. "Sis, I'm home," she whispered as she stroked the urn.
"Wait,'you're sister's dead?" I asked, shocked that her sister was but an urn.
"Yea... but I've gotten over it."
Touched by her bravery, I walked up to Lyna's parents and asked bravely, "Uncle, Aunt, May I get engaged with Lyna?"
We
"By all means!" they replied.I smiled at Lyna, signalling to her that it was the green flag to go. She smiled back.
Dylan got a job at McDonald's as a cashier, while Lyna passed her O Levels with flying colours. After NS, Dylan decided to pursue graphic design and became a successful graphic designer. As for Lyna, she pursued her dream of becoming a dance coach, and she now teaches Modern Jazz in Crestar. They eventually got married and gave birth to a baby girl Samantha.
