Chapter One:

McGonagall stepped forward with a roll of parchment, opening it up, "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted."
"Abbott, Hannah!" She called, a pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails had stumbled out of the line. When she put on the hat, it fell over her eyes.
After a moment's pause, the hat spoke, "HUFFLEPUFF!"
The table off to the right cheered as she walked down the aisle to get to them.
"Bones, Susan."
"HUFFLEPUFF" shouted the hat again, Susan ran off to sit by Hannah.
"Boot, Terry!"
"RAVENCLAW!"
The table from the left of Hufflepuff clapped and cheered, several Ravenclaws getting up to shake hands with him as he joined.
"Brocklehurst, Mandy" went to Ravenclaw too, but "Brown, Lavender" Was the first Gryffindor. "Bulstrode, Millicent" became the first Slytherin.
"Chrysalis, Essi!"
She looked over at me nervously, and I nodded to her. She took a glance at our father and he motioned to go ahead.
When she sat on the stool, the hat paused.
"Hmm, Let's see here. Many secrets, I see... But I know that won't affect my choice.." the hat paused for Dramatic effect.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
She got off the stool and smiled at me, I clapped with the Hufflepuffs and silently cheered her on.
"Chrysalis, (Y.n)."
I confidently walked up to the stool. This is just a hat that sorts you, not fighting any troll or practicing spells. Sitting on the stool, I looked off into the audience to smile at Essi.
"Hmm, another Chrysalis... Secrets, secrets. But you seem to be better off apart from your.. Sister." He mumbled in my ear, "Better be SLYTHERIN!"
I grinned, I knew I would be in the house my father was in. I caught Harry and Ron's eye before walking off, and they gave me the nastiest look I've ever seen.
'Rude.' I thought, 'I wonder what their problem is.'
Walking over to the Slytherin table was Euphoric. Soon enough I'll know everyone here, and even share Potions with them.
"Granger, Hermione!"
I watched as she was placed into Gryffindor, Ron being placed there soon after.
What struck me odd, is when they called "Potter, Harry!" The crowd went silent.
He was one of the last to be called up to place, and it took quite a while to place him. The hat shouted that he was to be a Gryffindor, and I heard Malfoy groan. Gryffindor's were ecstatic that he was placed with them, and the other tables seemed upset.
"What's the deal with Potter?" I had asked, "He isn't his parents. Never talked to them. But everyone is so admired with him?"
"That's because he survived you-know-who." Pansy Parkinson chipped in, eyes wide like it was some unknown gossip, "And he's a Potter!"
"So what?" I cringed, "He's so popular from that? His parents spelled him last minute I assume, and he just survived."
Some Slytherins nodded in agreement, others didnt care much.
"What if he had siblings? Would they be special too?" I asked on a whim.
"I would assume so, but he's the only one to survive. There's no way he has siblings."
By the end of the ceremony, Malfoy was in Slytherin along with Crabbe, Goyle, and a boy named Morag. When Malfoy was declared a Slytherin, he sauntered over to me with a smug look and sat beside me, scooting closer when he realized that Bloody Barron sat beside him.
"Now that we're in the same house," He started, "Are-"
Before Malfoy could finish his thought, Dumbledor spoke, "Welcome! Welcome!"
"Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin the banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you!"
Dumbledore sat back down, earning cheers from all the students. I watched in amazement as food just appeared on the table. Both Essi and I were never allowed to eat in the Great Hall, let alone step foot into it!
"I knew Dumbledore was a nut, but I never figured he was this much-" I elbowed Draco, causing him to glare at me.
Quickly filling my plate with my favorites, I quietly ate the feast of my life. Draco seemed to be doing the same, glancing at my plate once in a while.
"Malfoy what are you doing?" I questioned, watching as he arranged half his plate to look like mine.
"I just wanted to try some of the foods you seem to be fond of."
I shrugged at him and continued eating.
Halfway through the feast, he turned to me again, "Pure-blood, Half-blood, or Mudblood?"
I grinned, "Pure-Blood."
"Good... I'm also a pureblood. Can't have Wizards and Witches mix with Muggles now can we?" He paused, "What are your parents' names?"
I froze, Essi and I did not talk about a cover-up for our past yet, "Why would you like to know?"
He raised his eyebrow at me, shrugging and turning back to his food, "Just a question, Chrysalis. Don't you ever get questions asked to you??"
I turned to him, he was sneering. I rolled my eyes and turned back to my food, deciding I wasn't as hungry as I thought. I pushed my plate away and practiced spinning my wand. I had gotten better but it's not perfect yet. "Just curious you know. My parents are Lucious and Narissa Malfoy"
I turned to look at the young boy. He seemed to put on a proud figure talking about his family, but I remember talking to my father about how bad Lucious was to his son. Dad never mentioned the son was Draco. Back then, though, I didn't know him.
By the end of the feast, I managed to make friends with Draco, Goyle, Crabbe, and Parkinson.
