-Zyah’s POV-
“We will now have a speech from Zyah, Helen’s granddaughter.” As the speaker said that, my palms sweated and I felt a lump in my throat. I looked at my dad and Trey next to me, both of them giving me a small smile.
I slowly walked up and only then did it kick in that she was actually gone. I looked through the crowd of people, all of them look so sympathetic. I saw Luke in a suit and tie next to Gina. He smiled at me and that, itself, was enough to get me through this.
“I don’t really know how to start these things, I was never really the talker of the family.” I started, people nodded and laughed slightly in agreement.
“One person who always had a say though was my grandma, she was always there to tell you what you’re doing wrong or right” I paused and the crowd slowly chuckled.
“Although she’s no longer here to tell us what’s wrong or right, she’s up there, looking down on us and making sure that what we do is for the best. For a long time, Helen looked after my sister and I, our relationship was one that could be passed for a mother daughter relationship. She was literally always there, we didn’t always like it, you know, those times we wanted to go somewhere and she would say, ‘no no, that’s dangerous’.” I chuckled.
“Even though it looked like she just wanted us to suffer, she had our best interest at heart. When our family lost our angel, we thought things were going to get better, although they only worsened, my grandma was always there for me. For me, never there for my other sister but now, they’re reunited. I’d rather look at it as a positive more than a negative. Now, I’ve got two beautiful angels looking over me.” By this point the tears I was trying to fight back just came out.
“I may not know many things but one thing I do is that my grandma and my sister wouldn’t want us to think of this as a bad thing but to look at it as a positive, she lived, she loved and it was her time. Our tears won’t change that, but a smile will make her believe that she truly lived. And she did, so be happy that she was happy. Thank you”
With that I left the stage and the crowd clapped. I looked down at my lap and spaced out for the rest of the ceremony.
“Hey,” I heard from behind me, I turned around and said, “hi”.
“You okay?” Luke asked. “I will be” I smiled.
He nodded and looked down.
“So how-“ before I could finish, Luke’s lips were on mine. I pulled away confused, “luke?”.
He stayed silent for a bit.
“you said before that your two angels wanted the best for you right?” he asked.
I nodded, “look at your necklace” he said.
I looked down and it and back at him still confused.
“do you remember my promise to your sister?” he asked.
I nodded again looking down.
“I always keep my promises, if Ellie gave me that to give to you, it’s the best for you. It’s what you want right?” he said.
Once again, I nodded.
He looked at me, “I really really love you” he said, tears were falling from both of our eyes.
He walked closer to me and put his finger on my chin, “I love you too” I mumbled.
With that, I guess Luke and I were reunited, just like my sister and grandma, it was meant to be.
