The Industrial Revolution Pt.1

Don't worry, we're almost back to the present day. There's just one more important person that needs to be talked about. This person went down in history in 1777 during the industrial revolution. Steam power became the new trend. The Boonighted States of Scaremerica just gained its freedom from Fangland. However, this person lived on the normie side of the portal so it would actually be, The United States of America winning their freedom from England.

Anyways, in America a young man named Hexiciah Steam was a scientific legend. He was the master of steam power, if someone wanted it he could make it. This all went downhill though when he lost his arm in an invention accident. He didn't let that stop him though, he built himself a steam powered arm. He was the first known cyborg.

"Aha! I've finally done it" Hexiciah flipped a switch, a ton of steam blew into his face. He raises his arm showing a ton of copper and gears, "I've finally finished my new arm!!"

Hexiciah built a few small things, like a toy train to test his new arm before revealing it to the world. Everyone would be so impressed that all the other steam workers would go out of business. He strutted over to the front door of his shop and he flipped his sign to say he was open. Right as he turned his back to the door, the sound of a bell rang through his shop and the door swung open.

"Well that was fast" Hexiciah chuckles, examining his new arm

"I walk past your shop everyday in hopes you flip your sign." The other man smiles,

"Well, what do you have for me today?" Hexiciah turns around, rubbing the back of his neck with his robot arm. The man drops what he had brought and his eyes go wide

"What is that?" He asks

"Oh, if I hadn't invented this steam powered arm I wouldn't have been able to reopen."

"Oh- well uhh there's no point now really. I dropped what I brought. I can just buy a new one" the man quickly turns and walks out of the shop.

Rumor started to spread around the town, then the country and eventually overseas. Day after Day Hexiciah would open his store with a smile on his face, excited to get back to doing what he loved most. Day after day no one came. Week after week still no one. He lived alone so he had no idea what was going on, or why he had stopped getting customers. Soon the rent on his house and shop were due but he had no way to pay. He had gone too long without any customers.

Frustrating. It was so frustrating being left in the dark like this. The inventor clenched his jaw, and looked at the busy street outside of his shop. He stormed out stopping the first person he saw, using his copper arm, grabbing a young man's shirt. The man he stopped went pale, he tried to move away from Hexiciah but his copper arms grip was unbreakable.

"W-What do you want with me?" The man looked around for an escape, for someone to help

"I'm not going to hurt you kid" Hexiciah states "I just want to know why no one comes to my shop anymore."

"It's.. it's your arm!" The man explains quickly "People think you're trying to be a god by making your arm, and rumor went around that you used it to intimidate people into buying your stuff."

Hexiciah's heart dropped, he let the man go. The man ran, others on the road keeping a safe distance from Hexiciah. Some even crossed to the far side of the street to avoid him. The inventor looked at his arm, he clenched his jaw. Angry more than anything. He thought to himself, this was a huge medical breakthrough and it got rejected? Do they realize all the people who could have better lives because of this technology? He stormed back into his shop, packing his tools. As he rummaged through drawers for any other tools he may need, he spotted a box of matches. He stared at the box, he shouldn't but he wanted to. There was nothing keeping him here, no wife or kids. Nothing. They clearly didn't want him here either.

No. He wouldn't leave like that. If anyone wanted his technology like this though, he would make sure they couldn't get it unless they came to him. He packed up his shop. Every last screw, bolt and nail. He wouldn't leave an ounce of evidence of his work. After a few days worth of packing and cleaning he finally had everything on the carriage and ready to go.

Off he went. He started North and never looked back. Not once. He went North for days, till he ended up in Pain, or as the Normies call it, Maine. Right as he was just about out of water and food he strolled into a small town. This was perfect, he was far enough from home that he could start a new life here without anyone knowing who he was. People stopped and looked at him as he rode through town, it was obvious they didn't get visitors very often. He shrugged them off, they didn't know him yet but they surely will.

Building his new home took quite a while, so in the meantime he was staying in an Inn. The people of this town were quite strange, they were scared of the forest surrounding the town, along with the dark. They didn't mind his arm, which was a bit weird after Boston's reaction. The inventor was okay with it though, most of them actually thought it was pretty cool. Even people who were missing limbs would ask him to build them some. Everyday he'd set up shop out of the back of his carriage and became quite popular throughout the small town. With his invention abilities the town progressed quickly, sanitation, medical, electricity and many other things improved.

One night at the town's bar where Hexiciah spent most of his evenings, someone stumbled in before collapsing a few feet inside the door. Hexiciah rushed over to the man and felt his pulse.

"Someone get a doctor" He demanded, he rolled the male over and noticed bite marks on his neck. Hexiciah pulled his brows together. They weren't normal bite marks, it wasn't a bear or mountain lion. It was too clean, almost like two gigantic mosquito bites. "What on earth..."

The male coughed "they're real..."

"What's real?" Hexiciah pulled his brows together

"Those blood sucking demons, they're real" His voice was hoarse "They're gonna kill us all."

"You probably just ate something you shouldn't have" Hexiciah chuckled, he moved out of the way letting the doctors do what they needed. Smiling to himself he made his way back to the bar "I'm gonna need another drink after that."

"You could save us" the male blurted as they carried him from the building, Hexiciah looked at the male his brows pulled together. This place just gets weirder and weirder. Save them from what?

The bartender handed Hexiciah a drink, she frowned a little. "It starts sooner and sooner every year."

"What starts?" Hexiciah spun to her, now he was just concerned. Clearly whatever just happened was a normal thing. He was the only one to really be bothered by it.

"Every spring these blood sucking demons attack the woods around our town. We've lost a lot of our hunters and trappers because of them."

"You're sure it's not just a bear? The last time I checked, blood sucking demons don't exist."

"They only come out at night, they die in the sun." she started "So they never come into our town because there's no shade for them and they only come in the spring because they're getting ready to hibernate for the summer."

Hexiciah raised an eyebrow "How do you know so much?"

"My husband, he was a fur trapper. He's seen them, he got lucky once and now he helps here at the bar."

He nodded and thought for a moment "What did that guy mean I could save the town?"

"You're arm, there's no blood for them to drink." she motioned to his steam powered arm.

He looked down at his arm thinking for a moment. This was his chance, this was the moment... he would be this town's hero. He'd prove to Boston that his arm wasn't evil. Hexiciah smirked as he clenched his copper hand.

"I'll do some research and see what I can figure out." Hexiciah nodded, setting his drink down "I'm going to do everything I can to help this town."
