The shower had felt great. If there had been any chill left in Jade's bones, it was gone by the time she stepped out of the shower. Sure she has to wear the same clothes, but it was better than nothing.

The room itself was small; one king-sized bed, a desk with a rickety chair, a dresser with a massive, heavy television that was probably from the 80s, and a bathroom. It was far from luxurious, but it worked.

"There's not even a couch," Trina said. "If we have to stay here how will we handle sleeping?"

Jade toweled off her hair vigorously and shrugged. "It's a big bed. Just stay on your side of it or I'll kick you to the floor."

Trina laughed, until she noticed Jade's very serious face. The laughter faded, but she still seem unconvinced.

"I'll do my best," she said. "Tori used to complain that I moved around when we'd have to share a bed."

Oof. A tingle shot through Jade's midsection with that comment. She felt...dirty. Why did Trina talking about sharing a bed with Tori do...that?

Jade shook it off. Time to change the subject.

"I'm going to see what else he's got to eat here," she said. "You want anything?"

"If he's got anything approaching a salad, sure. Those fries were...not great. I'm going to take a bath while you're doing that."

"Don't care," Jade said, as she headed for the door. Jade didn't see the need for Trina to let her know that she'd soon be naked and wet in the bathroom. Why would anyone care about that, ever? What did it matter what those thick, well-muscled thighs looked like with nothing on, or what those breasts looked like unchained from...

Chrysler, is it warm in here?

Jade rushed outside, allowing the cold air to hit her full on the face, hoping it should shake her out of her ridiculous mental tangent. It mostly worked; the cold was definitely distracting. It made Jade want to turn around and go right back to the shower, but she knew Trina was about to go in there, and...

This is Beck's fault, Jade grumbled to herself. He just had to walk out on me. I'm so pent up, even Trina's soft skin and sexy curves are getting me going. The weight of what she just thought pressed upon her. Oh dear Jeebus, if you're up there get these thoughts out of my head.

The truth was Jade had never spent this much time with Trina. And what she had seen so far was challenging long-held beliefs and expectations. So far, Trina had shown herself to be a bit more mature than Jade expected based on their brief interactions over the years. She definitely had an irritating selfish streak, but that wasn't so different from Jade herself, so who really cared?

Did it really matter if this experience changed how she felt about Trina? Her opinion about Tori had slowly changed over the years. Why not what she thought of Trina? It's not like she'd have to interact with her all the time anyway.

It took about fifteen minutes for the big guy—Mak, Jade learned from his greasy name tag—to make a batch of fries and chicken tenders and assemble a passable salad. He went about his work a bit lighter than he had, and even informed Jade that a break in the storm was due to hit soon, if the wizards in the magic box on the wall were correct.

Jade thanked him, paid, and wandered back to the room. Trina was nowhere to be found, but the bathroom door was closed and Jade heard some splashing. She fought the urge to ponder on what was happening in there, choosing instead to sit at the desk and start on her tenders.
