The sun was setting on a very warm day in the West, just behind the mountains. Adrenaline was pulsing through your veins and your hands were sweating. Everything around you was calm and contained, but it felt like everything was burning. Your husband sat at his desk typing on his computer and glancing through some papers. Two of his men sat on the other couch, waiting for him to finish. You felt uncomfortable with them watching you out of the corners of their eyes. Praying with all your might, you kept glancing over to see if your husband was almost done looking over their work.
The door to the office suddenly opened, letting two of your husband's best friends into the room. Hyunjin and Seungmin walked over the couches and noticed the other two men in the room. It didn't take much force to remove the two men from the couch. Just one look at the cold scary stare that Hyunjin carried with him was enough to scare anyone out of his way. The two men decided to leave the room and come back later for their evaluation.
Seungmin looked at you for half a second and noticed you were not one hundred percent. He skipped out on taking a seat next to Hyunjin who stared at you through his eyelashes, annoyed. Seungmin put the back of his hand to your head and then checked your pulse.
"Are you feeling all right?" he mumbled, picking up your sweating hands in his and taking another test. Seungmin was the company's medical personnel and he always checked on you, since you were sick ninety-five percent of the time.
"She's been rigid like that for about an hour now," Jisung, your husband, spoke looking up from his papers with a gentle tone. "You may need to take her to your floor and check her."
Seungmin took you by your forearms and lifted you up off the couch to stand on the floor. "Let's go get you checked out."
You glanced at a worried Jisung and smiled slightly. Hyunjin was not convinced that it was something minor. The way you slightly rested your hands in front of your abdomen had his mind spiking the obvious. He knew you were worried about telling Jisung. It was written all over your face. Of course, he was glad for you, but he wasn't sure how Jisung would react. Hyunjin assumed you were about three months pregnant due to the small bump appearing behind your hands and the fact that you had been sick every morning for about a month. The longer you held it in, the more angry Jisung would be; the only thing to do was to wait and see if you were going to tell Jisung.
Seungmin opened the door into his office and helped you up onto the cool steal table provided for his patients. His eyes subtly flickered to the bump near your abdomen. He made sure to check your vitals and heart rate before making you lay down. He pulled out a needle and a medicine tube to draw blood from your arm. With the new technology, he could see if you were pregnant on his machine within a few seconds. Seungmin bandaged your arm before rolling over to his machine. A few numbers popped up and then a positive sign appeared on the screen. Seungmin looked over at your figure to see you staring at him.
"How long have you known you've been pregnant?" he asked seriously, rolling away slightly from the machine. Your eyes moved to the ceiling, letting subtle tears fall down your temples.
"Four months."
"You should've come to me as soon as you found out. Apparently, miracles happen and you are finally pregnant. How have you been feeling since you found out?"
"I guess okay. Besides the morning sickness," you replied, sitting up on your elbows. Seungmin nodded slightly and threw away the tube of blood and cleaned up his station.
"Well everything else seems normal and I'll take you off your birth control pills since they obviously didn't work. You will need to come in every week so I can check up on you and then we'll go on from there." Seungmin explained quickly and firmly. It seemed like he had done this many times before, which was strange for you because you could only see Seungmin as the doctor who stitches up wounds and took care of the injured. Not watching and taking care of pregnancy.
"Don't tell Jisung. I want to tell him," you warned Seungmin, worried that he would go and tell Jisung right away. He gave you a pointed look with his eyebrows raised.
"You're going to have to do it soon because that bump isn't getting any smaller."
With small steps, you walked back to your room in thought. Everything was a mess. First, you find out you're pregnant, second, you are part of the mafia, and bringing a child into that kind of environment is highly dangerous, third, you couldn't find the courage to tell Jisung because you were afraid about how he would react, and the fourth final problem was you needed to have a night out to get away from all the stress, but you knew Jisung wouldn't let you. Strangely, as soon as your mind mulled over the fourth problem, your phone buzzed. It was your ticket to a free night out. Now it was time to convince Jisung to let you go.
