A/N - For clarification - the John mentioned in this chapter is John Cussens, not John Deacon. John Cussens was a fellow dental student along with Roger and was also a friend and flat mate. I am borrowing heavily from actual events in Queen history, but this is obviously fiction.

Brian never forgot Tim's words of warning to him in the van. Telling him plainly that he could see Brian's infatuation with Roger but that he didn't have a chance with him. That Roger wasn't that kind of guy and only liked girls. Tim never mentioned it again and neither did Brian. Preferring to wallow in his self misery over the matter in silence. Glad that only Tim made mention of the fact and no one else ever did. Calming his fear that others might have seen what the bassist clearly detected.

Brian sat at the table by the front window at The Crown. Keeping watch out for this band mates. It was a windy day and the sun had never managed to shine. He was grateful for the warmth of the pub as he waited to meet with Tim and Roger. He was also grateful that the band had managed to survive their dismal experience with Mercury records.
Their single Earth never took off in the USA and despite them recording some additional tracks, a formal album never saw the light of day. They had been dropped by the label shortly thereafter. Despite the setback, they had continued to perform together. Managing gigs between their school demands and remaining solid friends. They had survived into the new year and Brian hoped they were meeting to talk about some plans to go back to Truro for some spring shows.
Brian smiled when he saw Tim approaching the entrance. They shared a wave as Tim stepped inside. He went straight for the bar to get a pint before joining Brian at the table where he waited.
"I almost got a coffee..." Tim remarked as he got seated. Keeping his coat on due to the chill that remained from being outside. Shivering with the remaining chill inside his body.
"It is a cold one today..." Brian agreed. Both men had a sip of their drinks and Tim looked at his friend earnestly.
"Brian...I wanted to meet you and Roger today because there is something I need to tell you..." he announced.
"Alright..." Brian replied. Curious what he was going to say. "Rog should be here soon..." he advised. Tim ran his fingers over the top of his pint glass. Seeming anxious.
"I told him to be here a bit later than I told you..." Tim confessed. Brian was surprised to hear it. Before he could ask why, Tim spoke again. "I wanted to talk to you first...since we've been friends for so long..." he stated. "I felt I owed it to you to talk to you first..." he stammered a bit. Brian got the feeling it was something serious and sat up a little.
"Is something the matter?" Brian questioned with growing concern. "Are you okay?" he asked. Tim sighed.
"I'm leaving the band..." Tim revealed. For some reason Brian wasn't completely surprised, but still found it unexpected.
"Oh!" he managed to reply. Seeing Tim appear a touch guilty at the announcement.
"Sorry...I just think I'm ready to do something else..." Tim told him. Brian nodded.
