Touch the Hem of His garment

8 1 2

35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, 36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. – Mathew 14:35-36 (NKJV)

Jesus is the most amazing person in the whole world. He is able to do what we are not humanely able to overcome and His help is always available to us in all kinds of situations. I have discovered as a believer that we can only make most of our relationship with Jesus when we have a relationship that grows in knowledge and understanding.

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue – 2 Peter 1:2-3 (NKJV)

It is very important that we know Jesus personally. And it is also very important to grow in our knowledge of Him. Peter could have prayed or said anything else. But he spoke about the importance of knowing Jesus. Knowing about Jesus is not as good as knowing Him. And maturity in God comes as we get to know God better.

Everything we need and desire is hidden in the person of Jesus. Jesus is the fullness of God in flesh. Whatever God can do; Jesus will do in our lives. And we have to allow the presence of the Holy Spirit to teach us who Jesus is. When we know Jesus, we receive guidance and deliverance. There are some people who make wrong choices everyday simply because they had no one to guide them. And some do the wrong things out of ignorance. If we are ever going to rise and become exactly what God wants us to become, we have to come to the knowledge of truth. And that truth is found in Jesus.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. – 1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NKJV)

God has desires just like we have desires. And unlike us, God's desires are pure. We might not have the best desires depending on how we might feel or whatever we might be going through. But God always has the best desires. And His are always pure. God doesn't just want us to be saved. Salvation is great! We should all get saved. We should all know Jesus. The whole point of being saved is coming to the knowledge of the truth.

Being saved is not enough. We have to come to a place where we desire the word of God. We cannot live out the knowledge of something we do not desire. Desire paves way for a fruitful life as a believer. It shouldn't be about committing to the things we think are our obligations, but everything we do should come from a place of strong desire to please God and to do what He wants.

2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby – 1 Peter 2:2 (NKJV)

I know that there are some believers that might think that this scripture is only for believers who are just starting out. The very same thing that a newly born again believer needs is the exact same word that a mature Christian needs as well. The difference might be and should be that as mature believers, we would have grown in our knowledge of Christ. Maturity in God is not based on how long we have been Christians, it's really about our grasp of the word of God.

We need that desire. And we can develop our inner man so much that we crave the presence of God. The flesh is not the only thing that can learn to crave for stuff. Our inner man can also be developed to desire the presence of God and His word.

They had knowledge of Him

35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased – Mathew 14:35 (KJV)
