Artemis didn't like to judge people. She never did. It was like her whole personality was based on being supportive, but when it came to a certain point she believed you had to conquer what was holding you back. What she didn't know was that it would end up with her and her new found friend being the catches of the day. _____________
This morning Cleo decided to knock on my door at 6:00 am, in a state of veiled stress, even though it was painfully obvious, so straight away I knew what it must have been about. Mermaid problems. I was aware that Cleo had always had a problem with water, she informed us on the night of our transformation. I just never thought it would be as bad as her trying to act as if there was no problem to begin with. After me listening to her problems I got ready and we made our way to the Juice Net Cafe.
Me and Cleo were walking towards the cafe, arms entwined together and our eyes lay upon Emma, Rikki and Lewis.
"Hey Cleo, Artemis, guess what?" asks Lewis, "These guys can hold their breathe for 15 minutes!" and me and Cleo join them at the table.
"Lewis!" the girls lecture.
"Sorry" he mutters in return.
"What's going on?" Cleo asks them.
"We've been, y'know, swimming" Emma tells us causiously.
"It's the best thing. The reef is out of this world." Rikki adds.
"Awesome-" I start and Cleo finishes, "That's great."
"So has anyone been able to finish that calculus homework? Question seven's a nightmare." Cleo states. We all know what she's doing. She doesn't like the idead of having a tail and being able to do and experience things other people can't. As I said before she's ignoring the problem. That's her coping mechanism, an unhealthy one but I know I'll support her until she decides other wise.
"We missed you this morning. Why weren't you answering your phone?" Emma queries sincerely.
"And that project on geography, that's due thursday. We really need to get together on that one." she continues to ignore.
"Listen, Cleo, whatever's happened to us is incredible. You've got to come out with us. The water is amazing." Rikki tries to reason with her.
"I'm not doing it, ok? I didn't ask for any of this to happen to us. So stop bugging me about it, ok?" Cleo finalises and stands up from her chair starting to walk away. Me and the group share a look and I get up after her, speed walking to catch up to her.
"Cleo" she ignores me.
"Cleo" I say again, coming to a stop infront of her and grabbing both her hands.
"Sweetie, you know you can't just ignore this and retaliate whenever it's brought up. It's a part of our life now and we have to learn to make it a part of us."
