"Black, Sirius." The teacher said, placing a gross old hat on my head.
I dreaded the most likely almost immediate yell of slytherin.
"Hmm, what have we here.."
Was that the hat? Why did it sound weird?
"No one else can hear me. I'm in your head."
You can hear my thoughts?
"Of course. Now I see every member of your family back a long time.."
Just get it over with. At least when this is done I can eat something.
"Calm down, young black. Your family doesn't affect your place. Especially since you don't have siblings here.. yet."
Don't put regulus in slytherin. He needs a break
"I put people where they will excel"
I doubt any will excel in slytherin
"You want slytherins in other houses?"
No
"You aren't a slytherin, dear boy."
What?
"Hm, you have some traits. But bravery above the others. Hm, yes-"
That's impossible
"Would you like to be a slytherin? I don't do it often.."
Don't do what?
"Place people where they don't belong. Of course preference comes into play, but I haven't yet put someone somewhere where they truly don't belong, yet."
Can you, with regulus?
"My boy, we'll see when he gets here."
What will happen when he gets here? I wondered. Will my brother choose not slytherin?
