The next morning Ann and Santana woke up and did they hygiene so they can go to school. With everything that happened last night the two could not be away from each other for more then 2 hours. They gathered their belongings and headed out the front door for school.
As they were walking they slowly approached what used to be Dolores store. Now stood a big pile of charred wood. Tears filled the brim of Ann's eyes she couldn't believe she was gone. They have heard nothing since last night and they wasn't mentally prepared to go to school.
A man with a red hoodie stood out front of the store. He notice Santana and Ann and took his hood off. He began walking to them.
"Aye you know who used to own this store?" He said
"Yea my aunt" Ann spoke up with dispair in her voice
"Aunt?" He asked
"Yea well not related by blood but she was like my aunt"
"Wait ? Your Ann?" The man asked
"Yea? Who are you?" Ann asked confused
"My name is Carlton, but you can call me Duck Dolores was my grandmother"
Ann's heart felt even more heavy. She was now standing in front of another piece of Dolores. She didn't know what to do tears started spilling out of her eyes. Without thinking she wrapped her arms around his waists and hugged him. He hugged her back feeling bad.
"We the last piece of my grandmother lil ma. She talked about you all the time. I didn't know who she was talking about I just thought she was getting sick but you are you" he said
" it hurt me to watch her d-die I wanted to help" Ann blurted out
Duck furrowed his eyebrows and unwrapped his arms from around Ann.
"Wym? U wanted to help? The police said that a circuit wire had caught on fire and she died from that."
Ann looked at Santana who looked back at duck.
"Look if y'all know sum please let me know" he said with sorrow laced in his voice.
Ann looked everywhere but his eyes. She couldn't look Dolores grandson in the face and tell him the story but since she blurted it out she was gonna have to tell him. Out the corner of her eye ann saw a familiar truck parked across the street. It looked like one of them Escalades that was at the store yesterday.
Duck followed her eyes and seen what she was looking at. Usually on a day like this he would have his pole but he didn't bring it because his grandmother hated how he carried it on him. She hated how he was in the streets and wanted him to change. So outta respect for her he didn't bring it.
