EJ was at Salt Lake Slices. Big Red had offered him a job to keep him busy.

EJ's Talking Head

Yeah, I'm taking a gap year. My parents were cool with it. I'm trying to find a school closer to my friend. I know I must sound like a loser, but they're my family. I don't think anyone else would get it. So until I can find a college, Big Red offered my a job at Slices to keep me busy. Now I just havev to know what I wann do after.

He sighs and braces himself. He was trying to get everything together, but he only temporarily stopped from falling aparty.

Even though they said they were, years of thinking his parents never felt pride of him took a toll in his mental health. There wasn't a day that he wouldn't look at himself in the mirror and just curse his whole existence.

He wasn't in college like he planned. He felt like he was taking he weight of being a disappointment to his parents. His entire life plan was taken off course. He almost got so lost on the vision his parents built of him to see who he really is.

Yes, he was accepted into a school, but it was in Denver. He remembered what that did to Nini and Ricky. He didn't want that for him and Gina. He didn't want that for anyone he cared about. After a long time contemplating everything and staring at the walls of his nearly sterile room, he made a decision.

A gap year. A way for him to get his priorities straight and find the perfect school for him. Where he can pursue his dream in theater. Thankfully, his parents supported his decision. Now, the sky's the limit.

But he felt a wave of loneliness wash over him. His friends were still in high school, and all of his senior friends bolted in a heartbeat. So right now, he was alone. As much as he didn't want to admit it, being alone in the world freaked him out just by thinking about it. It would be too scary.

"EJ, table 3's waiting!" Big mom calls, knocking EJ out of hos train of thought. He forget for a minute, he was workining. He grabs the pepporoni Pizza and walks out of the kitchen, planting the Pizza on the table. "Enjoy" he flashes a smile. Ya know the saying, service with a smile.

"EJ, my son said I could trust you with this job, but you've spacing out alot. Is everything okay?"

"Yes, Mrs. Rednovinch. I'm sorry, it's just thinking of what's to come. Really, your son and our friends are the only people keeping me here."

"I'm sure they'd love to hear that. One thing I learned is that you never know what the future holds, but the best is yet to come. You just have to wait and let it come to you."

"Thanks, Mrs. Redovoinch."

"Anytime" as Big Red's mom walks away, EJ leans aside the counter. After everything he's been through, he knows he'll be okay. After all, everything happens for a reason.
